    My car

I have just done the first 1000 miles in my ML 420 Cdi Sport. I test drove the Q7, X5, Volvo, Range Rover and Toureg. The ML was the clear winner. The Q7 had a bigger boot/space but I am not sure about the front end and the deal being offered by MB knocked spots of Audi. I know Merc has a poor dealer image but Tony Purslow in Gildford was superb. I cant fault them at all. The car is superb. It is easy to drive and very very responsive. The paddles allow real flexibility so if you want to nip around something then you can drop down a couple of gear rather than waiting for the automatic gearbox to do it for you - I have just been for a weeks holiday in Cornwall and overtaking was effortless. The comfort setting is very very smooth and all the small bumps are ironed out with ease. Fuel - 27 mpg but no real "town" drovong yet so that may change. On the other hand if you buy a £60K car you cant expect cheap running costs. Visibility is great and virtually no road noise below 80 mph. Only minor irritation is that for UK spec cars the digital speedo is set to kph and (unlesss I cant read the manual properly) cant be changed. Merc should offer the option for mph or to switch it off. All in all a superb car - comfortable, enough room for the family (two smallish children plus rubbish that follows them) and enough oomph when needed.

    My car

I have had the ML for just under a month and both my wife and I have both been very impressed with it. Our previous car was a BMW X5 3.0D Sport(2006). The whole Mercedes ( John R Weir, Perth) experience has so far been the best of all the dealers that we visited. Audi(Glasgow)have not bothered to get back to me and BMW have still to return my call. Volvo (Strathmore Perth & Taggarts Glasgow) were very attentive and came close to getting a deal but the ML was the car we chose. The running costs so far are comparable with the X5 although within the first month of ownning the X5 it was back at the dealers 6 times for annoying repairs. The Merc is a much more comfortable car to travel in and to drive. The seats hold you better than the slippy leather I've had in my previous cars. The column-stalk gear leaver takes a bit of getting use to as does the single leaver wipers/ lights/washer. Both work well when you have driven the car for a while. The acceleration is fantastic. The mid range would leave both the X5 and the new Range Rover V8 diesel standing. I test drove both the ml320 and the ml420 cars and the ml420 is rapid. The ml320 is quicker than my X5, the road holding is better, the gear-change is seamless and the road noise is barely audible. Mercedes have done their homework on this car and I think (hope!) they have got it right. If you are looking for a SUV then take a look at the ML. Hopefully like me you will be pleasantly supprised!

    My car

I have just finished my first month of ownership and placed 1,200 miles on the clock. What an engine! I needed a car that was comfortable, refined and safe, the ML delivers by the bucketful. I travel a lot on 'A' roads to Norfolk, which means HGV's and caravans, with my last car the Discovery 3 it was difficult to overtake. With the ML 420 you spot a gap pull out accelerate gently and it takes off like a rocketship, no drama, just a quiet refined shove in the back and the caravan is just blip in the rear view mirror. And the icing on the cake! at the moment even though it only has 1,200 miles on the engine i am still averaging 28 MPG, a figure I could only dream about in the Disco 3. All without as much as a rattle or squeek anywhere. It is a very well made SUV. I have read some criticism of MB dealers, but I personally found MB of Bedford excellent. My wife, grandaughter (2 years) and i spent 3 1/2 hours in the dealership when we bought and all the staff were superb. Richard Allison, Bedfordshire

    My car

I have now had this car for about three weeks, I bought it 5 months old with 5000 miles on the clock, the main reason for buying used was the price, the car came with everything I would have ordered and more,I have not been disappointed one bit and Dave Jowitt at Manchester Mercedes was a great help he offered the car to me before it came to the dealership drove it to Leicester for a test drive. Here's my car:

320cdi sport black privacy glass amg bodykit and 20inch wheels+ steps airmatic zenons command TV ipod integration 6 cd keyless go sunroof remote boot telephone prep heated memory seats brabus engine upgrade (272 bhp) List new £60,000 Paid £43,000

The car is driven mainly by my wife who simply loves it, its become our default weekend family vehicle which is I think the biggest copmliment I can pay this car as the `other` car is a one year old Mercedes CLS. The quality of the interior is much improved, but there is room for more (Audi Q7) but overall its great, not as common as a range rover sport, the barbus engine upgrade is amazing giving the car great performance, blipping the throttle on downshifts and no effect on ecomony,(25 mpg in town) I would recommend buying this car to anyone in the market for this type of vehicle, its not cheap to run but you werent expecting that were you!!
