    My car

I have now got used to the looks of the face lift model, and think its a beautiful vehicle. It's a wonderful car to drive with perfect steering, and a great engine and gearbox combination. It handles beautifully and is a very quick car. Local main dealer service is excellent. Only problem is rain getting into the boot and flooding the controls for the central locking. A £400 repair job out of the blue!

    My car

A beautiful, top of the range Mercedes, for not much money!

On the road: This car is more of a cruiser than a sports car, due to its heavy weight.

Ownership: Normal running costs aren't as bad as many people think, considering the type of car it is. Tyres are about the most expensive service item i have had to buy, which were about £750 to buy and fit, but then again they were for the 19" AMG alloys.

Reliability: Mechanically she is sweet as a nut, thou some really annoying issues, put a damper on the SL ownership. 1/ Water is getting into my boot due to the roof leaking, somewhere. 2/ Due to this water leak, sensors for the roof have stopped the roof working. Keeps saying the shutter (the thing the protects your luggage) is not locked in place, when it is. 3/ A braking fault has just appeared on the dash, but Mercedes have just sent a recall out, so glad that is covered.

In the cabin: A wonderful place to be, on of the nicest interiors i have been in, with so many toys to play with.

    Would I buy another:

Not too sure. Its a wonderful car, just that certain issues do put a downer, owning a top of the range Mercedes. They just need to sort out the the roof issues on these beautiful machines

    My car

I have just sold my Porsche 997 4S and bought a used SL65AMG on an 05 plate with just 9.5k on the clock (1 owner FMDSH). In the process i saved over 80k fron the list price and this car is like brand new. One word to accurately describe this car is "awesome"... I have owned an M3 and driven the RS range from Audi but none come close to this. It sounds like a motor boat when you start it up and comes loaded with just about all you can want/imagine. Cruises superurbly and accelrates effortless in any gear. (with 604 bhp) its more powerful than a Zonda and at a fraction of the price. Only criticsm is it struggles to place all that power on the road..but if you know what you're doing its a thrilling ride and a used one is bargain in this league...

    My car

Fantastic car to drive and great when everything working but far too many problems for a car at this price.

The last car i had with as much time off the road was an Austin Princess in the 1970's

Brake recalls and warnings, traction control problems, electric windows not closing and battery running down. Off the road for a week waiting for a new steering wheel from germany. However most annoying problem is the water leaking into the boot. Been in 4 times since new to have seals replaced but still the problem continues. From taking to other sl owners i know this is a common problem. A summer only car
