I have own 3 Shoguns 2 Dicsos and 1 Range Rover (I don't keep em long) but the 2001 Shogun I own now is a keeper.
It's every thing I want it to be: comfy, powerfull (even more so with the chip!!! 205Bhp), easy to drive. The interior is well put together. And the 3.2 Diesel is the best Mitsubishi has ever done compered to the dreadfull 2.5 and the solid but more thirsty 2.8.
It is noisy from cold (newer ones excluded). And the smooth 5spd Auto box does learn how you drive. ive tested it.
Loads of room, good for towing, & clever 3rd seats are a plus.
What do i want for the 2008 replacment.
More Opulent interior. Reversing cameras like on the imports. Either a more standard power with the 3.2. Or the new 3.8 Petrol v6.
I've tried toyotas and Isuzs but the Shogun is the one for me. Who cares what the reviews say about the car you drive as long as its reliable and you like driving it!!
Initial warranty claim for fault radio took longer to fix than expected due to inefficient local dealer. Generally pleased with the vehicle.
On long trips and driven carefully will get mid twenties mpg. Only niggle is that the paint work seems to pick up more scratches than expected.
Perfect car for a country-dwelling family. Huge capacity means it can comfortably carry the entire family plus luggage and dog without having to crush everyone in like the Tokyo Metro.
The engine would be unforgiveably noisy if it didn't return such superb economy (genuine 30MPG) and provide more pulling power than a pheromone factory.
Being a large machine, the optional parking sensors (rear) are a real asset, though the front ones add little value.
The additional two seats in boot are well designed but more suited to children or those of diminutive stature, though OK for adults on short journeys.
Handling is far better than reviews suggest, and furthermore it is relatively inexpensive and retains its value well, giving excellent cost of ownership for such a large, comfortable and versatile machine.
Love it to bits, would buy another tomorrow.
I bought it to tow a horse trailer which it does exceedingly well. Like the space inside. We also like the looks of the car as do our friends. It's a pleasure to drive and with the automatic, it's so easy.
Compared with the previous model which we owned, I find the turning circle and the ride much better.
I have had no problems with it to date and would not hesitate to buy another. My 3.2 engine is a big improvement on the 2.8 model. I spend a lot of time in my car driving long distances and find it really comfortable and I'm not tired at the end of the journey.
I love my Shogun.
