This car had only done 25k when the gear box completely broke. The car had been seviced at a Nissan dealer. The transmission had become slightly louder over a period of time and then 1st gear was difficult to select just before the box went. If you search the net you will find it is not uncommon for low mileage failure. The only reason we bought the car is because of all the reports about it being so reliable. Other problems include faulty airbag warning light and rattles coming from front doors when electric windows have been used. The internal panels are very easy to damage.
i have owned the nissan almera for 3 years on the motability scheme, inside the car is ok, it comes with allof the basic required for a first car.
the looks of the car are similar to the astra and old focus, but the inside is a bit drabby, black plastic all round.
on fuel consumstion i was doing around 120 miles on £20 worth of petrol which isn't to bad.
to buy this car as a cheap runnerbout i would give it the thumbs up.
I bought this car 2nd hand as a run around for my wife (car is now 5 years old). We had recently had a child and needed a car with 5 doors, this was avaialable and due to reliability of Nissans we decided to give it a go. The car has been reliable although I feel now that it is becoming expensive to run, particularly as it is mainly used for driving short distances, around town. The room in tha back is minimal, I'm over 6ft tall and can't drive the car if my son is in his car seat behind the drivers seat (I would squash his legs). Generally the car is ok, the interior is getting shabby and we are going to change the car soon, I will be buying another Almera, it is in my mind no match for a Focus, Golf or even the Megane.
This is my second Almera, the first was the previous model 1.6slx which I had for 7 trouble-free years.
I bought this car 2 years ago, it was 11 months old with 9,000mls on the clock This car drives nicely, handles and performs well. It is cheap to maintain and run.
The Almera must be the most under rated car in its class, if you want a hard luck story, buy something else!
Owners reporting faults are probably neglecting services - cars need oil changes!
