I actually own the 2.2dCI(136) SXE 3dr bought for £10900 on a 55 reg plate, at 6 months old and 1300mls on clock (now at 32500mls). This is my second almera (1.5e 2002 model). I have a love/hate relationship with my car. Loves: I love the power/acceleration of the engine. How easy it is to drive. The equipment levels (sat nav, electric windows/sunroof/mirrors/doors, trip computer, cd radio etc). The fairly large boot for the size of the car. Good fuel preformance.
Hates: At 25000mls had kankaroo problem on hard acceleration over 60mph for a couple of weeks, as reported on diesel X-Trails (solved with Redex as also reported elsewhere) 7000mls covered since then so fingers crossed. Can wallow through coners, you sometimes feel if she wont hold the line you want, though hasn't happened yet. Wind noise in cabin can be intrusive, turn up the cd!!
In all, I still love my car, I just wish it drove/had the refinement of a Volkswagen Passat TDI I had for 7 weeks in the summer. Wanted to hate it, but loved the road holding and quiteness of it. Give me the passat's road manners and quiteness with the almera's engine and toys and I would be a happy man.
By this car I've ever been in. Appalling grey interior. Acres of gray plastic feel very cheap. Lacking in rear legroom. Extremely tedious on long journeys- too loud, uncomfortable seats, engine extremely anguished anywhere above 85 mph, lack of toys in cabin make it all the worse, atrocious wind, engine and road noise. Exterior styling manages to be both bland and ugly.
By far the nastiest car I've ever been in. Appalling grey interior. Acres of gray plastic feel very cheap. Lacking in rear legroom. Extremely tedious on long journeys- too loud, uncomfortable seats, engine extremely anguished anywhere above 75 mph, lack of toys in cabin make it all the worse, atrocious wind, engine and road noise. Exterior styling manages to be both bland and ugly. Handling extremely poor. Large boot and adequate fuel economy are about the only good points.
I have this car since 2005 and it's great value for money! Fully reliable, no break downs, fuel saving behavour, Japanese diamond.
