USED Nissan Note Hatchback (06 - )

My car

This was car was bought from new just over 18 months ago and now has 20,000 miles on the clock.

It is very economical, comfortable and versatile, loads of space to configure for passengers/and or cargo. The cabin is light and airy. The double level boot is a bit gimmicky but it is handy in making for a level loading platform when the rear seats are down. The build quality is good. Only one warranty issue so far - a faulty clip on the drivers’ sun visor replaced without fuss under warranty. The dashboard is a bit plasticky yet it is tough and the quality is good with no rattles yet.

All round visibility is excellent. I opted for the "comfort Pack" which takes you halfway to the SVE trim, providing climate control, rain sensing wipers, auto lights and an in dash 6 CD changer. There is a wide choice of tyres with the 15 inchers on this model. The car is still on its originals with some 4mm still left on the fronts.

The motor gives enough oomph for me and keeps up well on the motorway. The ride is a little firm but not an issue for me. It is a little noisy on cold starts but soon settles down. Economy is excellent. Low to mid 60's mpg in normal driving. The steering is light which makes it a dream to park and in town but loses a little on the open road. Despite that this is a nimble car and fun on an open road. I would certainly consider buying one again and I look forward to getting in it and driving it every day.

My car

We bought our 1.6 auto new 2 years ago, because our old shape Micra had been utterly reliable over 9 years and because it is British built! Unfortunately the local dealer is expensive, the 1st years service cost £280 but was paid for by them due to some damage to the car when we picked it up.

Some reviews comment on the hard ride. I think it has a very comfortable ride, especially when compared to the company cars I drive. I'm 6 foot tall so a little more driver leg room would be nice, but I say the same about my Zafira. As a passenger, my wife finds the Note more comfortable and on the odd occassion she drives, she loves the high seating position, visibility and wheel adjustment and the fact that she can see where the bonnet ends because of the headlamp blobs.

We have 3 children and they all fit in. We usually have the rear seats pushed back giving acres of leg room in the back. It's also quite surprising how much luggage you can still get in the boot when you make use of the false floor. The air-con and heating are first rate. The headlights are good. The myriad of storage areas are very handy and the seat trays are a neat idea, although our 3yr old keeps kicking them and has broken the cup holder on one.

Apart from the wish for a little more driver legroom, my only gripe is with the instrument dials - I think they are too small and the markings are far too close to read quickly.

All in all, I would recommend the Note as a thoroughly competent small family car.

My car

I bought this car new in 2006 having previously owned 4 different Nissan models all of which were extremely reliable and reasonably cheap to run. The Note is very roomy and the handling is surprisingly good for a tall, narrow car. It is well equipped but the climate control is the least effective I have ever known. The seating is not the most comfortable but ease of access is outstanding due to wide (front) doors and high seat squabs. Night driving is helped by very good headlights. The Note is easy to park, helped on the SVE by parking sensors though the turning circle is quite large. The one thing that stands out about this car is the lack of care Nissan has shown to its customers by fitting brak pads and Disks that one is told need replacing after 12k carefully driven miles and also Tyres that last no more than 12k miles (coming up to my third set in 22000 miles at £420 a set) that are only manufactured by one company (Continental) and then refusing to help when asked if other, more standard rims , can be fitted, "tough" was actually the answer given by Nissan UK's headquarters. Just shows how careful you have to be before buying a new car, thought I could trust Nissan, what a mug am I.
