This car has excellent road-holding and grip (2.0 Sport version). Its fuel consumption is outstanding - it never falls below 35mpg and easy to exceed 40mpg even on a shortish run (38mpg at 80mph!).
It doesn't feel as sophisticated as some competitors, and the engine is rather gruff (not a patch on a Honda unit).
However, as a used car, it is impossible to find a better blend of peformance, economy, reliability and space at such a low price. I paid under £5000 from a Nissan dealer for a three-year-old car with only 25,000 miles on the clock.
My dad drove the car and it was mainly him that owned it, but I know that our whole family very much enjoyed the it. Ours was a 1998 S-reg one with a 1.6 engine (and I think it was a GX).
None of us had any complaints and we did not have any problems while owning the car. From a passenger's point of view, the back seats were spacious and very comfortable as were the front seats.
It was a very good buy and I would recomend it for anyone looking for a family car because boot space was again very good. I do not know what it's like from a driver's point of view, but my dad found the car very comfortable.
This car will trounce many a boy racer while in air-conditioned comfort.
The leather driver's seat showed wear from an early age, and trim rattles can be annoying. Unquestionable reliability and anonymous performance is a huge bonus. Fuel consumption is reasonable, 28-38mpg depending on driving style.
I love this car, and after 18 months it's still suprising owners of Lexus IS200s etc. I can't fault it for the money.
I've always liked Primeras but I've got to say that I love my 1997 Primera GT, the ride is enjoyable with nice comforts, the engine is just nicely responsive and the running costs are averagely good.

Had this car for 90k from new. A 56 plate. In over 2,000,000 miles driven this one has broken down the most of any car I have had. DO NOT get a 2.0…
