What a disaster. I specifically selected the 2.0dci model in order to get the better performance. I had come from a Volvo V50 2.0 diesel, and on paper the Qashqai has the same torque at the same engine speed and some 16bhp more power, but the manner in which this power is delivered means that there is hardly any usable torque below 3000rpm, and with a 4500 rpm red line, the driavability of the car is just awful. The Volvo would have left it for dead in any gear. Initially this problem was hidden because I was diligently running the car in, but when I did come to use full throttle, I was convinced that there was a problem. The dealer response? "We test drove it and compared it with an identiacal model and there's no fault". Their conclusion is that it is a characteristic of remapping the engine to meet Euro V requirements and nothing can be done - Euro IV spec cars have excellent performance, apparently. The result of this is that it has do be driven like a petrol car. Want to overtake at 40? Foget it in 6th...or 5th...or 4th. Want to pull out quickly at a junction? First gear and boot it well into the red is the only way - even then it's heart in mouth time.
When cruising along it's okay, but the engine is very "gruff", and the aircon pretty poor, so not, as What car have it, a four star car at all.
So, panoramic roof, satnav, leather, reversing camera, all very nice, I'm sure, but like having a high def tv with a nice frmae and no picture, all a bit pointless. Avoid!
Bought mine in November 2008. Nice car to drive. Bad faults, Sat Nav by full address only and not via post code.New front tyres after 11700 miles and I dont ride hard. New electric window switch in drivers door as water runs in through the window if its open slightly and wets all the switch. New rear suspension. Air con system rubbish. Not cool enough in summer and not warm enough in winter. Needed a 12 volt fan heater to stop winscreen freezing up when I breathed. Having to drive around with gloves, hat and scarf on all the time.Complained about it and dealer says that Nissan know about them as they all are like it, but not committed to changing it.DPF light came on during the snowy period. Had to do 70mph in 4th gear for 15 mile to burn it off. Other than that its a lovely car. Nice riding position but saying that Im looking to replace it and it wont be for another Qashqai.
Nissan Qashqai Review I replaced this car last week having purchased it new in March 2008. I covered 20k miles and it was serviced twice by the supplying dealer. The first service cost £192 and the second £248. In common with all early Qashqais the rear shock absorbers failed and were replaced after about 8500 miles at which time I was told by the dealer that there was a fitting procedure which must be adhered to otherwise early failure would recur. I experienced no further problems. The dealer gave excellent attention both when I purchased the car and had it in for service. There was a steering fault recall which was attended to during the second service. Overall the car performed well, returning 40mpg over very mixed motoring. I had no trouble with the DPF but then the car was never used for 1 or 2 mile trips. The bodywork remained in good condition and was resilient to stone chips etc. The interior plastic around the footwells tended to mark easily and were difficult to remove. The car performed well and had plenty of power as you would expect from a 150hp turbo diesel. The engine noise was rather harsh, especially before it reached normal operating temperature, and over uneven surfaces the ride tended to be quite bumpy. There were a few rattles from the rear seat backs and passenger seat belt clip which I never managed to resolve other than short term with liberal use of dry silicone spray. The profile of the rear seats means the car is not a true 5 seater.
I live in the Peaks and the 1600 petrol engine has NO Go in it and cannot cope with hills even little ones, mainly have to go down to second gear. I will definately not buy another one of these. I have owned this car for 4 weeks and am in the process of changing. It has been in the garage twice as it jerks all the time while driving and also in cruise mode. Apparently there is nothing wrong with the engine but it definately does feel like there is a problem with it.
I bought this unassuming star a year and 14000…
