I have owned this car for about a year now. I have the exact same vehicle used for review in Auto Express and bought for a bargain.
This car is the best-looking and most practical town car I've owned. Driving and parking around London has been a doddle and when when Mr Bottomtooth was trying to park that Bantley in Knightsbridge, he couldn't help but look on in jealousy as I nicked a sneaky parking space at the drop of hat and then promptly wafted out from the comfort of the car with my wife from the auto sliding doors.
Look for second-hand models with all the extras! JBL GSM (voice-activated) sat-nav, phone and CD player make it a true hoodride.
Running costs are low, servicing is cheap, and glitches have been few and far between!
Don't buy one new!
I bought a pretty much mint two-year-old 1.6 16v Sport 2-Tronic with only 5k on the clock for silly money - much less than half it's current new price in fact. It was the bargain of the century for me - it does exactly what I want a car to do and more. It offers great economy, comfort, looks uber cool (especially in Aegean Blue as mine is) turns a few heads and goes quickly when needed.
I've had the car just a week now and I have no problems to report. It drives great and does seem very quick, even if you leave it all to the full auto mode and forget about the flappy paddles.
As for the sliding doors, you do get some strange looks - but I find them the dogs danglies in terms of practicality and ease of access/exit.
I didn't buy from a main dealer (too expensive) but needed a two year service to keep the third year of the warranty - my main Pug dealer quote for a full 20k/2 year service....£120! I'm very happy with that and fully comp insurance at £149 per year.
To all those doubters, try one. You might get a surprise as to how good a little car it really is.
So far so good! If the doors drop off I'll post again.
I bought this car a month ago against all the bad reviews and opinions of friends and relatives. I can't believe that I was going to walk away from it, and I am glad I didn't.
It is so comfortable to drive. It accelerates well enough for me and when I want to overtake, I just flip the left paddle under the steering wheel to drop down a gear and there is plenty of power.
The different ways you can position the seats, depending on how you are using the car, are great, too. The high driving position gives such a clear view of the road, and it is currently doing 45 miles to the gallon. The paint job is fantastic - they certainly haven't skimped on paint when they painted this car.
The doors speak for themselves - they're wonderful.
I love my car, its the diesal version and is nippy and spacious inside but the doors are driving me mad. They are fun and people always loook but its not funny being towed away when you cant keep the door shut to drive off or park your car!. It once broke in a city centre which passers by thought very amusing . Despite the help of a taxi driver giving the door a hefty shove the driver door kept opening and wouldnt shut. Ive had driver side catch replaced, both handles changed, contacts changed. I collected it from the garage yesterday ,after having trouble with the passenger door and today it stuck again!! I dont want to swap the car but any ideas? Is it the switch as it seems to work better with the key fob! The garage are great but when I took it back today it worked fine. I feel a fool but cant predict when and why it wont shut
