I sold this car a while back, and I will be purchasing another model in the next four weeks.
The reason for this is that it was truly an amazing car for the price. I will be buying a slightly newer model this time though. I timed a 0-62 at 6.0sec flat in my V-reg 206 GTI 138bhp. I would say you will not get better for the price of around 5-6 grand.
Handling is 10/10 and I really had no problems with the car whatsoever. A classic motor and will look forward to my new one.
I bought this car under the "GLX" badge in March 2003 and had it repaced in May 2004.
It has been more than 14 times to the garage for electrical faults through including the turbo pipe coming off while on the motorway at 70mph and blowing white smoke. It has been in to have the turbo pipe replaced loads of times.
Owing the 206 1.4 LX as my first car is certainly a good experiment for me. Fuel consumption is very good, a tankful lasting between four and seven days, depending on journeys. Servicing intervals is an excellent 20,000 milse or 2 years - I went for the two-year programme. I've had no problems with my car's mechanicals. Occasionally a headlight bulb will blow, but it's easily sorted. The driving position is very tiring, especially if you are above 5ft 9in tall. Keep an eye on the front tyres, because I find they wear out after about a year Overall, I'll still buy and drive the 206, regardless of the driving postion, because it is cheap on tax and insurance, and servicing. I might fancy the GTi 180 one day but will wait for the price drop. Or may choose the 1.6 16vSE instead.
I have owned this car for two months now and have found the car OK. The car handles very well, and although the seats are supportive, i can never get comfortable due to a awful driving position. The 110bhp diesel engine is torquey and provides a lot of pull in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear, but just lacks overall power. Definately not worth that GTi badge on the side of the car. Equipment is generous; with a CD autochanger, half-leather seats, digital air-con, ABS, and a nice set of alloys. Would i buy this car again? Yes, but with a petrol 180bhp engine under the bonnet.
