    My car

I have just test driven a 1.4S for 282 miles...a very interesting car.

    Good bits:

Brakes superb, steering and clutch are nice and light. Interior fit and finish is very pleasing. 1.4 petrol engine is remarkable...overall managed 49.5 MPG...that's a mixture of driving on the M1, M40, M25 plus a couple of city centres and apart from acceleration in 5th at 70mph (I forgot it's only a 1.4!) there are NO issues driving on the motorway. Quieter at 80 mph than it is at 50 (almost)! Very easy to drive and good standard kit.

    Bad bits:

Seats back sides are just too narrow for a 6 foot, 13 stone bloke..but (another good bit) it is very easy to slot some lumbar padding behind the seat back if the standard seat is not to your liking. Biggest issue is the ride which I found very disappointing, very jiggly...even on newly laid roads I felt like a peg in a washing machine...maybe the price you pay for driving a small car?

Would I buy one? No...but if I got got presented with one as a hire car I could certainly live with it. Well worth a test drive.

    My car

I am looking for a new car, so I tested the new Renault Clio, Peugeot 207 and Toyota Yaris to size them up.

I discounted the Yaris because it felt plasticky and old-fashioned to drive and the ride was too harsh. The Clio and 207 are quite similar in many respects, but I prefer the look of the 207 and the interior just feels better quality and more stylish.

In comparison, the Clio felt bland and old woman-ish. The 207 also had the better drive with light but engaging handling and a sorted ride. The 90bhp HDi diesel engine is really smooth, too, and better than the dCi engine in the Clio in my opinion.

At the end of the day, I guess it depends on which look you prefer, because both are great cars, but I'll be placing an order for the 207 in the next few days. That's because I think it's better in most respects except for rear headroom, but that doesn't really affect me. I'm just waiting for a good deal because my local dealer is reluctant to negotiate.

    My car

I have recently driven the new 207 at a Peugeot launch event, and found both the drive and build quality to be of an extremely high standard.

The car is very well finshed inside and looks fantastic from the outside. My wife drives a 306, and this will be the perfect replacement for it, as the size is almost identical.

The prices start at a cheap £8995, too, and my local dealer is doing some fantastic offers and a launch on June 8 2006, which I am excited about.
