    My car

Mines actually a 1.9 d turbo R reg 1997 with 91,000 on the clock. I had a few problems a few months after i'd bought it. Had to have another engine as the cylinder head gasket blew. Its had new wheel bearings and had to replace one of the drive shafts last year. Apart from these problems I still have a soft spot for it. The ride is comfortable and its responsive. Very economical. I think it still looks good for its age. Its a shame they stopped making them.

    My car

This is a fabulous car to drive: even with over 100,000 miles on the clock it feels tight, responsive and eager. Cornering at speed is a hoot as the passive rear wheel steering guides you around the trickiest of bends, which is pretty confidence-inspiring. You need to keep on top of servicing, though, or running one of these can become very pricy. In particular you need to ensure that the cam belt is changed every 50,000 miles: the alternative (a destroyed engine) is too expensive to bear thinking about. The aircon is fragile, too: mine needed a new condenser last year (when it was five years old) and that cost the thick end of 900 quid. Ouch! Servicing intervals are massive, though (20,000 miles), and at a decent independent garage a major service shouldn't cost more than £150. In the GTI-6 the cabin is a nice place to be - leather seats (which are quite comfortable, although lacking lateral support) add to the feeling of well-being, and the (expensive!) aircon is very effective. The level of comfort isn't brilliant on long drives - not enough lower back support can lead to some aches after the miles have been covered. For day-to-day use, though, it's a pleasure. Overall, a great car. The performance is always there, but with the advantage (I think) that it looks quite ordinary. Then you put your foot down and surprise everyone - including yourself, sometimes. What a pity that Peugeot don't make anything that comes close to this or the lamented 205 GTI any more.

    My car

I bought my 1996 (P reg) 306 1.9 TD Meridian from a friend in 2001 with 40,000 on the clock. It's done another 120,000 miles since then and has proved both reliable and economical to own. I get about 550 miles on a full tank (£50) and the servicing costs at my local non Peugeot garage have proved reasonable. Being a heavy diesel it does need new brake pads regularly, and it lacks ABS and air conditioning, but overall it's an excellent car that is ageing well. I hope to get over 200,000 miles out of mine.
