I have to totally disagree with the reviewer's comments!I've had two coupes, a 2L and currently a 3L V6. The 2L is no match for the V6 yes, but it was still a very good car.I could understand comments on the line of "dodgy" electrics on some models, high fuel consumption on all models except on 2.2 HDI,high running cost if purely relying on Peugeot dealers/services.Have you ever seen a coupe stranded on the side of the road? No. You want a true and hoonest review, visit the club's website (www.406coupeclub.com), people will tell you what it is to live with the 406 coupe.
The drive is really good. The engine is powerful, fast and sounds sweet, especially as you're accelerating. There’s plenty of power and the handling is supple for a car like this. It’s no Impreza, but it held the road very well.
It looks nice, and when cleaned and polished it really stood out, though compared with modern cars it's starting to look quite dated.
Inside, the black leather and bucket seats work really nice. The dashboard looks straight from the standard 406. The JBL sound system sounds a lot better than most standard systems.
It's spacious too. You can fit five people in with plenty of legroom, though headroom in the back isn't brilliant. The boot space is large enough for a couple of suitcases and luggage but it missed a tailgate and fold-down back seats.
There are a few bad points. Don't buy this car if fuel economy is important. It wasn't so bad when petrol was under £1, but now it's not viable if you use the car for any serious miles. A full tank cost £70, which doesn't last long.
Reliability was good - it always started first time, but if you like everything to work properly all the time, don't buy this car. The engine would stall at low speeds, build quality was poor and lots of little things would go wrong, mainly mechanisms and electrics.
Overall, if you're looking for a high-specification car that’s affordable, fun to drive and looks good, this is the car for you. If you're after reliability and economy then this definitely isn't.
This is the best car I have owned in 40 years of motoring, including BMWs and Alfas. It's fast, versatile, not expensive to run and gorgeous to look at. It will cruise effortlessly at over 120mph and still turns heads.
I have owed the V6 SE Coupe for 10 years and it is one of the best cars I have owned.
Over this period, motoring has been comparatively problem-free and the car has now done more than 100,000 miles.
On long journeys it is smooth and I get now just above 400 miles from the 60-litre tank. When new, I had achieved nearly 500 miles.
I have replaced the radiator recently and am considering getting the cam belt done (well overdue!).

I once owned an 04 GT (the version with the stupidly heavy clutch - a built in gym for your left leg). I've driven both editions since and must say…
I bought my TT 2 years ago, second hand (99 model)with 40k on the clock. Since then it has done 40 more. Service costs have been £250 a time. Timing…
