I've read about bad driving position and confusing centre console in the press. It took me some time to get used to the driving position because of the legs, but after a couple of weeks I felt perfectly in place. Spacious in front, could have a little more head and leg room in the back, but coupe shape doesn’t allow it to be better. Still, more than enough for average height people. Boot and practicality are not a problem. The centre console has many buttons, but once you’ve learned the important ones, it’s easy to work with. The screens are useful and sharp, although fuel info could stay fixed in the dash screen. An “AC off” button in the console would also be welcome. Supple and stable at high speed, a little bumpy at low speed over bad roads (older Peugeot models are slightly better at low speeds), but never uncomfortable. Steering is sharp and informative enough to have some fun in twisty roads and body roll is well balanced between bends. Good grip and ESP not too intrusive, although it can be rough when solicited. Well isolated from engine and exterior sound, but the grille and windscreen pillars are noisy at high speeds. Also, the antenna is weak and the speakers are of low quality. Excellent build and material quality. Engine was a good surprise. Not a racing car but copes well with the weight and gives good MPG. Smooth and responsive from 1500rpm on, it allows good cruising speeds and in two and a half years hasn’t let me down. Minor glitches were quickly fixed.
On from my previous reviews, my 407 has just had it's second flywheel fitted, a new clutch, another ECU reprogramme to stop the poor tickover, oh, and a new fuel tank as the old (!?) one was leaking.
Yet again the dealer in Loughborough (Sunwin Motors - Shared with Mazda) did a cracking job of sorting it out in good time whilst doing the 78k service.
The car goes in 3 months - hurrah!!
test drove various other family cars mondeo,accord,Passat,C5 etc. For value for money ,toys and comfort i found the pug almost impossible to beat. the car is well built, handles well, totally re-liable and offers good economy. not the fastest of the mark but the mid range pull is very impressive. As the miles mount up the engine is getting better and smoother. All in all a very impressive package from peugeot the lion is indeed going from strength to strength.
I'm very happy with the overall performance of car. I'm getting approximately 53mpg. It's a great to drive around town, but can feel slightly underpowered when going full tilt on a motorway.
