When I came to choose a new company car, I tried the majority of medium saloons (Citroen C5 (ugh!) Volkswagen Passat (old model) Toyota Avensis Ford Mondeo) and found the 407 1.6HDI S not only to be the best balance between purchase price, tax efficiency and running costs, but was very surprised at how well specified it is. It's quick enough, very good on fuel, quiet compared to other deisels, and extremely comfortable to drive, I'm 6' 3" and I can adjust the seating to get it very comfortable. I bought a silver one as I think it looks sleeker in that colour, dark colours don't seem to look quite as good. Try one before you buy anything else. You'll be impressed.
Great car to drive. Overall build quality is very good, so unreliability must have been built in by the French! I accept faults can take place but I do not forgive dealer incompetence: every Peugeot main dealer (3 so far) has failed to identify and repair several perceptible faults while I have driven this car. I hope my employer gets a better deal from another contract hire company... but I know I will miss this car when it happens.
I own this car, in japan. This car has good feeling. I like it.
but, When it runs in low speed in the traffic tie-up on the highway, 407 output the warned message,'suspension faulty'.
My dealer did this,
1.suspension ECU changed 2.height sensor x 4 changed 3.AT ECU upgrade 4.engine ECU upgrade.
but, we are still unsettled.
if when you slove, please, talk to me some details.
Peugeot makes predictably good diesels and the 407/607 HDis are admirable mile-munchers. They're dull to drive as the chassis can't cope with sudden movements. You can also feel every bump in the road and I can honestly say that this is the worst ride quality that I've experienced on a new car. French cars give you most of the gizmos but the rear parking sensors stopped working. Brake squeal is also an issue as the steel is poor quality, this was also a problem on the 406.

Had this car for 90k from new. A 56 plate. In over 2,000,000 miles driven this one has broken down the most of any car I have had. DO NOT get a 2.0…
