I was given this car for a weekend to help in the decision between a 407 and an Avensis.
I took out the SE model, which had an endless list of toys. Auto headlights, wipers, multi-function display, climate control, auto-dimming rear view mirror etc etc.
A couple of particularly great features are the panoramic roof, which looks fantastic, and the follow-me-home headlights, which remain on for up to 30 secs to allow you to find the front door.
The engine (1.6 diesel) pulls well for such a big car and seems smooth and refined, although open the windows and you can hear it's a diesel.
It did make a whirring noise under acceleration, which I assume is the overboost kicking in which develops an extra 10bhp for overtaking.
Comfort levels were fine and the cabin feels extremely spacious. I've heard complaints about the centre console being too confusing but it only took five minutes of playing to get used to and feels very natural.
Looks wise I think that this is the sexiest estate on the market and I'd happily own one. The saloon probably wins in the style stakes though and apparently handles better due to less bulk and shorter body length.
For anyone looking for an estate, this would make a great buy.
The only let-downs were a slightly too firm ride (not great if you're transporting delicate goods in the back) and it is tricky to park as the rear view isn't particularly great.
