Bought 2003 facelift moxel 2.7 second hand. Thought I'd be clever and get this before my wife has kids ;) Certainly not regretting it. This is the lesser powered model but that means cheaper group 18 insurance and improved fuel economy. Very practical as long as you use soft bags; even been on camping hols with it. Made sure mine has PSM (stability mgt) as I planned to use all year round. PSM has saved my ass a couple of times. You can turn it off but if you do it will be re-activated when you brake. Grip levels and steering feedback encourage confidence. Tuned exhaust sounds awesome- especially on passenger side. BOSE stereo is superb and it really can pump out a lot of noise. Lost count of the number of speakers it has dotted around. I am 6 foot 4 inches tall and have long legs. I get around this by wearing shoes with very small heels which help a lot when turning the steering wheel. Have had a few problems- windscreen replaced following a stone hit on motorway.. A loud noise when operating hood mechanism was sorted by Porsche dealership. Wheel bearings went after just 15,000 miles(£300)- not covered by the one year extended warranty (£700+) as deemed wear and tear. Alloy wheel chrome fixed under warranty (took it on last day!)- it had corroded in one spot. 2 year major servive approx £550. I am averaging about 26mpg and I guess it is expensive to run. But what a car! It turns a lot of heads and if I am one day reduced to MPV misery I will be able look back and smile.
After having tried a TT and a Z4, this was pretty much a no brainer for me. Let me get the bad sides out of the way first. The ride is quite firm, the running costs are sky high and it requires some skill to drive to the limits. In the wet, many others will leave for for dead. On the ups, the experience is unlike any other. Just sitting in it will make you smile. With the hood down on a sunny day, going through the country roads, I was lost for words. The sound is typical Porsche, the speed WILL thrill you,the brakes are nothing short of sensational. The handling is beyond reproach. I could go on and on,but just go and try one. Nothing else will do. Just have the vehicle checked properly before you buy and watch out for the rear main seal-costs over 800 quid to fixed and is quite common.
This car has great handling, especially when cornering, a lovely engine noise, good reliability, and a good boot size for a two-seater car. It also benefits from low depreciation and reasonable running costs for this type of car.
It's not perfect, though; it's a bit noisy on motorway, and has a few little rattles as the car get older. It can also be a bit tricky on slippery surfaces.
It was not a good decision to buy this car.
I bought a 2000W 3.2 S Tiptronic from main dealer with a full service history.
It has always leaked, with pools of water behind the passenger seat. It has been to a main Porsche dealer on numerous ocassions but still leaks. I have to drive with rolled up newspaper under the carpets to absorb the water.
I was originally told that to cure it would require a completely new hood but, after numerous letters to the dealer and Porsche, they have now found a replacement part. It costs £8.
At 35,000 miles, I was told there was a major engine leak at the gearbox, which required taking the gearbox out - costing about £1800.
I was also told that there was oil leaking through both cam covers - again very expensive to repair.
Last year, touring through the Vosges mountains, it overheated. I was stranded for three hours.
This year, the air-con broke down in central France when the air temperature was 38 degrees C - very steamy. Then the heat deflector broke off the exhaust, clanking all the way through Spain and France.
I've found Porsche head office appalling.
It's a wonderful car, superbly designed and drives superbly, but this one seems to have been poorly screwed together. It's nothing like the quality I'd expect of a Porsche.
Quite simply, it's been a very unsatisfactory experience. My wife's Fiat Bravo HSE has been less trouble.

Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
