I have owned my Boxster now since 6 month and I am very happy with the car. I went to a Porsche dealer because I always wanted to drive one of these cars. At this point of time I wasn’t really thinking of buying one myself. But as with many things you don’t know how it is before you have tried. I contacted a local Porsche Centre via email and I got a prompt response and I paid them a visit during the week.
I felt reasonable safe during the first 2-3 minutes of the test drive when the safes rep was driving the car, but at one point we left the 3 mph speed limited zone and then I was scared. The sound of the engine and the punch when it accelerates was scaring & excited both at the same time. It was definitely an adrenaline pumping exercise. Then I jumped into the driver seat and I felt a little bit squashed, but that is when all the fun started. … Two hours later I left the place and the idea of my own Porsche was growing on me. A couple of more visits to decide about the model I want and a testdrive in Silverstone completed my decision process. I talked to 2 different Porsche Centres as I live exactly in the middle of both of them and they were both very good. No comparison to BMW, Audi and Merc dealers around my area were the customer service is on a slightly lower level.
Amazing car, once driven, never forgotton, forget all the pretenders like BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, they will never have the passion of a Porsche
Well, I bought my Boxster new in 2005 and love it. I normally change my car every 2yrs but this gives me such a buzz every time I drive it. Had one switch replaced under warranty thats about it. I drove a revised version of mine thinking I may be tempted to change it.. however they have tweeked the engine slightly and the exhaust note is quieter and it just does not do it for me.. So I am keeping mine and saving up for a 911! Round town 24mpg... but on a long run I have got 37!.. yes I do go over 56mph! lol
I've just driven 3,000 miles round Europe in the car including Route Napolean over the French Alps.
Cabin space is actually quite good - there are plenty of cubby holes for storing cameras, shades, wallets etc. Luggage space was deceivingly good - it easily swallowed 2 large hold alls.
Handling as you'd expect is up there with the best - excellent steering feedback and very capable brakes were particularly welcome in some of the alpine passes.
Performance off the mark is reasonable - it is slightly faster than most hot hatches. Fuel economy was a pleasant surprise - you get at least 450 miles to a tank on the motorway (cruising at 80-90mph).
Highly recommended if you want a summer toy. Very easy to drive fast and I'd recommend the facelift (987) also as the interior is vastly improved.
