For reasons unknown, the insurance industry rate this car as a 12/20 group, yet it is revving at nearly 4000 rpm @ 70mph - so I cruise it at 65, and get passed by trucks! Fuel consunmption is around 26 mpg, which for a 1470cc car is thirsty. It has only 3 auto gears, which probably explains the lack of mpg and performance - the worst of both worlds. At 64 years of age, I no longer have a heavy right foot!! The ride is stiff and is a very hard ride on most secondary roads. Road holding is quite good, as is the steering. Brakes are "adequate"! It is reliable, but mine has had niggles - electric window switch u/s etc. Spares hard to find. I will get rid of this car shortly - you can do much better - say a Honda Civic or an Audi A3 - both better on fuel, Insurance, tax etc.
Bought this car secondhand. It's a great little car - nothing hardly goes wrong with it. I've only had 1 or 2 problems. It's not true what they say about Protons - they're good, reliable cars. Don't let people put you off. This is my 3rd Proton and I would buy from them again.
This was the very first car I managed to buy brand new (it was named the Persona Compact at the time) - basically a Mitsubishi Colt put together in Malaysia and hence the Proton badge.
Many years on, when our second car bit the dust I suggested to the wife that she get one of these as they were so cheap second-hand. She reluctantly agreed but now loves the little devil and she's been happily driving it daily for the last two years.
It’s nippy, the boot size is good for a small car and rear seats fold down to make it a good carrying vehicle to take things to the tip (had a double mattress and a tumble dryer in there)!
The best thing about them is they don’t seem to go wrong. They just go on and on…
Don’t let the badge put you off – they’re cheap, reliable and a worthy second vehicle in any household.
I have this car as a courtesy car as my own was smashed by an idiot running into my back and have now done 500 miles. I'll be positive first,…
Just sold my Panda after 5 years of trouble free driving,I only got rid of it because a slightly bigger car was needed. I would be happy to…
