I have owned this car for nearly three years having bought it when it was one year old. It is great fun to drive with more than enough power for a car its size. I have found it excellent value for money and although a couple of things have gone wrong over the years (interior fan, rear shock and cruise control) they have all been fixable (and cheaper if you avoid Renault dealers). It is a well equipped car with climate control, auto head lights and windscreen wipers; the cruise control is great for giving the right foot a break on long journeys; and the speed limiter is very useful for road work speed limits on the motorway. The interior quality isn't excellent but it is good enough and I have found the car comfortable on long journeys.
I highly recommend the car for anyone who is looking for fun driving on a limited budget. Happy driving.
I use this car as an every day car and it seems to cope with it so far. I drive a lot during the week and I go out to my Grandmas house on Sundays and she lives about 20 miles away and it's not bad but not brilliant for long drives. I would say it's a car made for the town rather than a long distance traveller. Fuel economy is great, I get 35 miles for about a fivers worth of fuel. Great for young or city drivers.
I bought this 04 plate car from Renault 3 years ago with 9000 miles on the clock. It is the 1st diesel i have owned and was a bit wary at 1st but i am glad i bought it. The car is very easy to drive. I do 15000 miles a year and the fact that it does 60mpg is the best thing about this car. I've even had over 70mpg if i drive carefully. The car copes very well on motorways, especially when you consider it only has 65bhp. Just stick your foot down when joining the motorway and your soon up to 70! It feels a lot quicker than the 0-60 time of 15 seconds as quoted. Servicing isn't cheap at Renault garages, but 18000 mile intervals at least mean you get your moneys worth! The interior is a bit low rent, but everything is well laid out and where you expect it. In summary i would say this has been an excellent car, its done 53000 miles now and am trading it in for an 07 plate diesel Megane later this week. If you need a cheap reliable car then i would recommend this car.
I've just recently purchased a 52 reg Initiale with 18,000 miles on the clock for under 5,000. Leather trim, very conftable and firm ride compared to my old VW Polo which I found very bouncy as it was an R reg with 110,000. I am finding the running costs pretty much the same as I drive it occasionally at the higher end of the rev range.
It performs extremely smoothly and the back support on the driver seat is perfect for myself as well as the adjustments on the headrest. The engine idles at the lights as if it wasn't on, I often check the rev counter to make sure it is as it is whisper quite. Also handy to have a full sized spare but I have lost some depth in the boot but increased in length.
Insurance has gone as it would with a larger engine, not the cleanest of 1.6 as it is in group D.
I've bought a quality car with all the extras which was exactly what I was looking for. I will own it until it has had enough and with trade in for another Renault. I've never driving a French car before and I must say I love it.
