Bought this car for two reasons only: Superb fuel economy and the Quickshift gear box. The average that I am seeing on a run of 40 miles twice daily is up in the 70mpg over dual carriage way and A class roads. Quickshift gearbox can be frustrating as it doesn’t change up when you think it should and can be caught out at junctions if you don’t come to a complete halt. Seats very poor offer no support and why oh why arent reach and rake adjustment and rear speaker standard. With 9000 miles plus I am still yet to experience the dealer servicing but have seen 100% reliability.
This car is a star!! You'd never belive that it had a 1.2 engine. Its great round town and not out of depth on the motorway, the turbo kicks in at the right time giving nice pull. The car feels tough and well screwed together and the interior is really nice and quite classy. A massive leap forward in quailty and stlye from the last Clio. The body kit looks great and makes the car stand out in a crowd!!! BUY ONE! You wont regret it!
Just bought this brand new Clio Extreme 5dr hatch 1.2. The driving is not bad. Inside the car could be better. As for petrol, that's ok. Unfortunately, you have got to have the radio or cd player up on full volume as the noise when driving is like driving a very old car. My old Clio was 7 yr old and half as quiet.
In my view a sensible purchase. Compared to a Fiesta or Corsa this is miles better. The cabin is of a high quality and there is plenty of room for 4 adults. The gem, however, is the engine. It's punchy, quiet and frugal and I swear it goes quicker than Renault say. At 70mph it only does 3000rpm in 5th gear, so it is a quiet motorway cruiser between 70-80mph and only gets vocal when doing 90mph plus. That was not in Britain, by the way! The steering is light but it is a big car, it has to be said. Sometimes it's difficult to gauge the extremities of the car when parking/reversing. The mpg is about 45-50mpg on a good run, so that's not too bad. It also looks the part if you get the bodykit and 16-inch alloys. Some people think it is a Clio 197. If only! Downsides? The stereo could be better and is a bit tinny, and the doors are so big and heavy on the 3-door version. It's also difficult to replace the dipstick when you check the oil. That was a pain. So if you aren't bothered about spec, then just buy the cheapest version with this engine. It's great. Pity Renault didn't turn up the wick with the turbocharger. It could easily pump out more bhp but mpg etc would naturally suffer.
