    My car

I recently purchased a used R reg (1998) 2.2dt RT 5dr. The mileage was well up, 192,000, but as a steady driver, this did not seem to pose a problem because the average diesel engine should be good for about 250,000 miles.

I found the loading capacity excellent, especially when removing all seats and the swivelling passenger front seat gives extra room for thiose 'lengthy' objects one comes across.

Fuel consumption is about one third more than the Rover Montego previously owned, but that can be expected because of the larger engine capacity and loading space available.

The only disadvantage with rear seat removal is the projecting fixtures where the seats would have been in connection with the need to slide items along the floor to load and unload.

It handles well, has a good gear ratio, is quiet with good all-round visilility. I felt that more use could be made of the large dash board area for stowage for those bits and bobs, but a plus point is the ability to hide the radio etc equipment behind the closing cover.

The suspension appears to handle heavy loads with ease. Removal of the spare wheel is a bit of a performance, but being stowed under the vehicle, does save space. The unobtrusive rear wheel arches within the vehicle are not too much of an infringement on space.

    My car

Having previously owned an Espace, I was very happy to buy another new model in 2000.

Although it was very comfortable and well equipped, it was plagued by a series of mechanical problems. Even when new the suspension and air-conditioning were faulty and had to be fixed after only a couple of weeks.

Further problems occurred at unpredictable intervals, most serious of which were difficulties with starting, faulty lights and sticking doors. Finally there was a really serious problem with power loss due to failure of fuel injectors which cost almost £1000 to fix and was still not working properly. I vowed never to buy another Renault!

    My car

My vehicle is a 2001 car, by which time I think Renault had sorted out the majority of the problems.

The cabin is very comfortable and spacious with wonderful attention to detail. However, some of the materials used are a little cheap. I find the driving position a bit to upright but it is very comfortable plus the vision is excellent.

Servicing is more expensive than the Toyota and Lexus I have owned previously but not excesive. Unlike the fuel consumption which is high at around 27mpg overall. But it has to be said I do wring out every last drop of performance, which if you want to make progress, you have to do.

I am sure the TDi is a better option for high mileage users.

Would I buy another? Probably not as I tend to try out different cars, but I would recommend buying one to anyone who wants a big, load carrying, comfortable and stylish people mover.

Go on....you know you want one!

    My car

Very good car when first purchased from the dealer in 1999 but after two years it's very expensive on services and parts.

I've had electrical problems and just had the steering rack and pinion done at 65,000 miles, which cost £1025.
