    My car

I must be lucky because judging by some motoring journalist's reviews, this car is a real dud! In three years of ownership from new I have experienced almost no problems and the car has been completely reliable: so much so that I am considering having the same again.

There is some wind noise at speed with the top up, but less than in any ragtop I have owned. It goes and stops well, looks good and takes corners without too much fuss.

    A great touring car.

    My car

My Mégane has a 1.9dCi 130 engine with good torque and good top speed.

Refinement is acceptable, though wind noise is audible from the side window joints. It's not as sporty as my old Peugeot 306 hatchback, but considering the weight and size of the roof, this is not necessarily an unexpected flaw. The roof is unique in being the first convertible with a glass top, meaning the cabin is flooded with light all the time.

Lowering the roof claims to take a class-leading 22 seconds - in reality this is astonishingly less than 20! I am 5ft 10in tall, and with my drivers' seat set at a comfortable distance, there is still space for a tall adult to sit behind me in comfort, though the upright seat backs and curve of the roof do mean that no rear passenger will never feel blessed with space.

Rear comfort is better than in equivalent CCs because of wide padded armrests and personal window controls, whilst driver comfort is great, with armrests on both sides and fully adjustable seats and steering column.

In 'Pearl Black' and with optional 17-inch alloys the car looks great, and far prettier with the roof up than the Focus CC and 307, which both look ungainly and blobby. The Mégane's naturally sharp lines accommodate the large rear deck more forgivingly than most of its rivals. Roof down, the Renault is stunning and gains admiring glances.

Interior trim is high quality and aluminium finishes on the Phase II look great, but some lower-down plastics do mark easily.

    My car

I saved £5000 by purchasing my new 1.9 dCi Dynamique from Motorpoint.

The car was UK sourced, shipped to France and then imported again so it could be sold outside a Renault dealership.

Having owned a Saab 9-3 Aero cabriolet, I have to report the Renault drives better, is quicker off the mark, is quiter at speed with the roof down and is also much cheaper to run.

It looks fabulous, apart from the interior which is just ordinary. It's a really fun car without costing a bomb and looks great.

    My car

We have purchased a Megane in Monaco trim, which is the same as the Diamonique but with extras including leather seats.

The car is nice looking and drives well. My only dislike, which maybe a common fault with all convertibles, is the wind noise at around 70mph, just by your shoulder where the roof join unfolds. I keep checking the windows to see if they are open, because it sounds just like a window which is slightly open.

The boot room is fine for our needs - I'm 6ft tall and have plenty of space. Fortunately, we only have one child, who can sit behind the passenger seat comfortably, but you couldn't carry two six-footers in the back for far without having to stop and stretch.

On the whole, it's a nice car - it's just that wind noise which annoys me.
