USED Renault Megane Hatchback (02 - 09)

My car

I've driven 109,000 miles in my 54 Reg Megane and most of them have been fault free. The car is excellent on the motorway (c53mpg sitting at 70mph) and very quiet. Very competent cruiser with comfy seats and good stereo.

It's not exactly exciting on country roads.If you've got tall friends it's not fantastic in the back, and the boot's not great either but then it's only a small car. No Focus beater but I'd definately get another one.

Only things that have gone wrong: cable linking the 'start' buton to the clutch lever broke within 1,000m and at 80,000m the battery decided to discharge of it's own accord but apart from that it's been great.

My car

Just an updsate: after 18+ Months/17000 miles, NO Problems whatsoever. I'm a professional driver and my working cars are primarily an Audi A6 2.0Tdi SE (2008 model) but with regular stints in Mercedes E200K/BMW735i/BMW520i/BMWx5 and occasionally a humble Renault 1.6 Laguna Expression. The Megane is a superb motorway cruiser, at a cruise contol set 78mph with 4 adults and some baggage it holds 6th gear effortlessly on any motorway hill I've tried. Around town it's light controls are delightful althoughwhen pushed through mountain roads it's adequate for most it's NOT a sports car. The steering mounted audio controls are better than anything offered by Messrs Merc/BMW/Audi. On a day off I honestly don't miss the works cars in anyway. All in all I'm very happy and will not think twicw about buying another Renault... But NOT a Laguna!

My car

We own this Megane and a 1.6 Sport Tourer. Initially we thought we had hit a bargain: it has stylish looks, quality build, excellent price etc etc.

However after two years the interior started to fall apart, the breaks squeal incessantly, and the engine constantly misfires when idling, is difficult to start in a morning and blows smoke when it eventually starts.

We have lost track of the number of times our Meganes have broken down (usually for defective ignition coils) or been back to the dealer who constantly says "well we can't find anything wrong on the diagnostics".

I will not buy a Renault again.

My car

on tuesday the 24th of june 08 i was driving my magane when i was rammed at aprox 60 mph by a transit van the van hit me side on it drove off with the police in hot persuit i was badly shaken but i opened my door and got out the car. the car is a right off but i was ok thank you renault for saving my life.xxx ps.tomorrow i am going to buy a new one
