    My car

    I purchased a 2001 Scenic in December 2004 having been a previous owner of a 1997 Scenic.

Little did I know there was a problem with the ignition coils. Needless to say, after three weeks it broke down and needed four replacement coils. This was fixed and four weeks later the dashboard light came on again. Yet another coil had gone down.

Overall I wouldn't recomend anybody buying a petrol version of the Scenic range.

    My car

We've had this car from new and it has had two clutches and now the engine mount has gone due to the bolts holding it in place shearing and working loose, apparently Renault feels this is normal and not down to manafacturing fault, However I believe this is pretty appalling for a car that is only three years old!

    My car

I have only just bought the 2.0 16v Dynamique five-door on a 51 plate. It's a nice family wagon, goes well, could be quieter. But, for the price, I can live with it.

The car goes well in a straight line, just don't pile on the gas in a corner. Seats don't offer much surport but on the whole it's a nice A to B car. It's safe and practical with a good trim level.

With sevices at 18,000, it's better than the Mondeo we had and faster.

    My car

A growing family and a hatchback-sized parking space meant the Scenic's compact externals and large internal space was the ideal solution. Headroom and legroom is more than adequate for 2 adults and 3 teenagers with luggage space as well.

Large windows increase the feeling of space and the quiet, airy cabin is very pleasant. There is even enough room to allow cleaning-up after the kids without bending over backwards! The numerous storage bins are very useful, especially for quickly putting valuables out-of-sight at service stations. Fully loaded, the engine is powerful enough to cruise at motorway speeds and still allow safe acceleration.

The cabin height does make the car susceptible to cross-winds and this is exacerbated by rather soft suspension, making fast progress on windy days somewhat interesting. This also shows-up on fast bends, but if speed limits are adhered to, the car wallows but still feels safe.

The fuel consumption is not as good as a diesel but 40 mpg+ is achievable on long trips. Servicing and parts are readily available at non-dealer prices. Several Scenic owners mentioned minor electrical problems, however, in my first year (and 24K), I have had no problems.

Overall, I have found the Scenic is an ideal family car for the non-sporty driver (i.e. me!). Practical, affordable and very capable.
