USED Rover 25 Hatchback (99 - 05)

My car

The Rover 25 is the most shocking and most deadly car I have ever owned. There is no acceleration - I nearly rolled over at 4mph. The brakes sometimes work and it is awful.

My car

ROVER 200 Si 1.4 16v-S registered...I have owned and driven this car for 8 years and i have found it to be very reliable. It is also very easy to drive and fairly smooth compared to similar aged/sized cars. However it is not the most economical car on the road....roughly 270 miles to the tank but fewer when doing local(ie non motorway)trips.It is plain inside with very basic controls and no air conditioning. Overall...it has been a great car for me!!

My car

This is my first car, it's a lovely blue 211i, R reg (98). I bought it last August. I love it to pieces but the first week I had it the head gasket went(roughly 84000 miles - not too shocking really). Luckily I found a mechanic who could do it without charging the earth. You would think that would be the last you'd need to worry about that particular problem for several thousand miles yet. Wrong. This afternoon it broke down and looks like it may be the same problem. I have heard that the head gaskets are a problem, but the review states 'only when levels get low'. I would like to say that my car is well loved, fluids kept topped up all the time, and checked over once a week without fail. It could be a cracked hose, but I seriously doubt it having been there once before.

Head gasket aside (which, ok, is fairly damning) I love it. I find it a pleasure to drive-nice and quiet, no rattles at speed or anything. The mpg isn't bad at 40mpg on a run. Except for the head gasket, I have had no other mechanical problems (it is now 97500 miles). Visibility is good, the bodywork hasn't rusted, it runs cleanly, and does what you ask it to when you ask it to. It's a very comfortable ride too. It isn't a nightmare in any other respect, in fact quite the opposite.

It's such a shame, because I really am very fond of it.

My car

I think the first thing that you notice about the Rover 25 is the low window line, which gives excellent visibility and a real feeling of space. The car has very good equipment levels including air-conditioning, electric windows and sunroof. Internal space is excellent for a car in this class together with a surprising amount of boot space. The 1.6 16v engine is very lively and is great for both city and motorway driving.

The external styling is unmistakeably Rover, which is no bad thing, considering how many of the other manufacturers are producing bland generic vehicles. Although Rover is no more, service parts are still widely available and are well priced, too.

These cars make great used buys. Overall, it's a great car that hasn’t had the support it truly deserves.
