I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR NEARLY 4 YEARS IT HAS BEEN VERY RELIABLE. GREAT ON WINTER MORNINGS. VERY GOOD ON LONG JOURNEYS. I DID A RUN FROM SUNDERLAND TO CARDIFF ON ONE TANK OF FUEL.
OVERALL A VERY GOOD CAR
Although this car may lack in equipment compared to its rivals, it has relatively cheap insurance, good security features and is very reliable. For a 1.4 performing at 0-60 in 10.2 seconds, the engine is very willing but sometimes is not as economical as other 1.4s.
The car has been reliable and not really prone to faults.
Had the car from new, and many problems:
Central locking on the driver's door had to be replaced.
Engine problems - two sets of piston rings, changed by Rover main dealer, and the car still has the same problem it went into the garage for. The dealer is talking of putting a new engine into the car, it's only 2.5 years old, with 29,000 miles on the clock.
Rusty boot door hinges, after on six months of owning the car.
I have a Rover 25 with a 1.6-litre engine, complete with leather seats and air-conditioning and I am now looking for a 1.4 SEi for fuel economy.
All I can say is that the Rover 1.4 SEi is a very nice car to drive and I can say that this one is on my list for 2005 - I change my car every 3 years.
