USED Rover 45 Hatchback (99 - 05)

My car

I own a 2001 51 plate Ie 16v standard model of the 45 in midnight blue. I have a small family a wife,and 2 boys one is 14 and the other is 7. So our 45 is big to us. Mine has only blown a head gasket once with the previous owner before me. As mine being a 1.4 16v it's very economical and is also very nippy! Mostly i love the comfortable seats, great for long journeys on the motorway! It's a fabulous car to me and i shall be keeping mine for a long time to come. I also love the chrome inserts on the bumpers and on the grile not forgeting the waulnut wood inside, it made the 45 look extremely tidy and SMART:)!Only the bad thing is many people scrap Rover 45's everyday due to cluches going and head gaskets blowing, even though Rover has a name for blowing head gaskets:(. Overall EXELLENT family car (hatchback version). Martin.

'A rover 45' they all said, 'don't buy one of them, they have gone out of business', they all said. true Rover have gone out of business but probably as a result of this I picked up my x reg 45 with low miles for a snip at £1400 pounds. After initial paranoia that the car was going to fall apart beneath me, i am happy to report that this has been a truly reliable car for the year that I have owned it. It is as fresh as ever it came out of the factory. It has a simple but practical interior with ultra comfy seats, a two way opening sunroof and everythig else just in the right place where it should be. electric windows and mirrors come as standard i think and airbags for driver and passenger and in the seats also.

With a largish body and a relatively small engine. This car is no speed demon as far as acceleration is concerned however on the motorway once it gets above 60 it seems to just glide along effortlessly. It is a very quiet and smooth car to drive and the ride and handling are brilliant.

All in all, a great little car to own. Though I have been ripped to shreds for my endorsed ownership of a 'grandad car', i would have to honestly say that this is a reliable car that will not let you down.

A vastly underated car,ive owned my 2004 1.6 model for over 2 years now with totally problem free motoring.Its extremely comfortable especially on long journeys and still looks great.

I thought I would update my review of 28/5/06 on this car. I don't own one now as my three Rovers (a 400 and two 45's) were all company cars over a nine year period and my current company car is a Vauxhall (more later on this). I endorse pretty well all that has been said by other reviewers on the excellent 45 but felt that the handling of my last 45 was even better than others say. Driving a Vauxhall Astra Estate for nearly two years now (see my review on this car) has confirmed my opinion on just how good the Rovers were. The motoring press would be surprised at this. Great pity I can't buy a new Rover 45 now as I definately would have done when I come to buy a car for myself. Andrew McRobbie (review 17/04/07) will probably find that the cupholders have been removed from the covered storage well between the front seats.
