Cheaper than BMWs, Mercs or Audis and well equipped. Better to drive and has no stigma attatched like the other snob branded cars. Very reliable and well built. Performs just as well.
I've had this car for a year now and am about to exchange it for a new one.
The handling is superb and far exceeded my expectations from a convertible. The body is rigid and there is hardly any flex in the chassis. The power available is phenomenal from a 2-litre engine - albeit fitted with a turbo. This can result in some torque steer which can catch out unsuspecting drivers.
Having driven several soft tops that are on the market, including the BMW and Audi offerings, I rate this as the class beater - easily.
My criticisms are with the after sales service from Saab. Considering this is their flagship (and it's not cheap!) I would have expected more from them. It was recalled for a minor check (not a problem - it's a new model and I accept that checks need to be carried out). I was NOT given a replacement whilst my car was in the garage being checked and neither was I informed that the check had been completed and that the car was ready for collection!!
However, this cannot detract from the fact that this is a fantastic car and I have loved every minute of owning it - although it can drink the fuel pretty quick! If you're undecided which soft top to buy, then do yourself a favour and go for this one - you WON'T be disappointed!
My 2004 Model Aero convertible was purchased in July of 2004.
It is perfect for a pretty disappointing summer, as the roof is very easy (and quick) to raise and lower, and fully automatic. There is no trace of scuttle shake, chassis twist or any creaks and groans. It's better than a Mercedes CLK I also tried.
It provides great performance - the torque in the mid range of the six gears can be amazing.
It is very practical - luggage for two for a fortnight in Scotland was swallowed up easiliy, and only one bag had to be put on the back seat if the roof was down.
It is indistinguishable from a hard top with the roof up and the heater is like a furnace; perfect for those sunny but cold autumn afternoons with the roof down.
I would recommend the wind-deflector, although is is very expensive for what it is.
Otherwise, it is extremely well equipped, and looks great, retaining Saab's traditional quirkiness whilst being subtly aggressive, in the style of the "classic" 900 Aeros (particularly in Darth Vader black).
The dealers I have had experience with have all been extremely accommodating, polite and efficient, during both the sales and after-sales process. They are willing to negotiate.
I'd recommend it to anyone in the market for a practical, sporting soft-top, without the unfortunate image of a BMW, more character than an Audi A4, but with just as much overall build quality and performance, at a much better price.

I love this car! Handling is great, its fun to drive and even reasonably practical!
