I bought the Aero after having an Alfa 166 for a few years (2.5 V6). The Aero is a revelation in terms of its mid range acceleration, that coupled to its ability to carry five people in comfort and all for probably around £15k for a good second hand one make it almost unbeatable. It's handling is not as involving as the Alfa, but its straight line performance makes this almost irrelevant. If you're thinking of getting one - don't hesitate they really are a wolf in sheeps clothing. I'm so impressed I am now going to get the Abbott Racing 300bhp kit, which will hopefully also improve the handling
After 92,500 miles I have replaced the battery, the thermostat and two light bulbs (apart from normal servicing of course) - and you can't complain at that!
Performance is fantastic. It only misses a soundtrack to match.
Reliability is second to none. I had a Mercedes previously and it was awful in comparison.
For comfort, you cannot beat Saab seats or ergonomics, and for style, 'I am not the usual German menace' - excellent!
The best bit is leaving many BMWs standing - a real wolf in sheep's clothing, is the Aero.
The worst bit is that depreciation is shocking, given the high specification and initial cost.
What can I say I looked forward to getting this car, now I can't wait to get rid of it!!! Despite being a pretty car it is very unreliable, silly things break and there is always a fear that something else is about to break, I've had at most a 3 month holiday from the dealership. They too have had it hard as it takes them 3-5 attempts to fix each problem, sometimes not fixing it at all. In 4 years of ownership (2nd owner, it is a 2000 model) the car has depreciated by 20K and it would have cost more than 5K in repairs, all this with only 83000 miles on the clock and a maindealer service history.
I'm thinking of buying a 2001 9/5 3.0 V6 turbo, although i know they're not the most refined car i just love his character, confort, design and the smoothness. What can you advise me 9/5 drivers? Is it a good choice? The price tag is very attractive.
