I have had 3 SAAB's and I have only had this car for 3 weeks it is on a 2000 plate and has full sevice history and only 42K on the clock. After having BMW's and S-Type Jag's this is a wonderful car. The seats are great and it sits on the motorway like a magic carpet.Yes it has the external looks for many years. Buy one.
Motorway driving is a breeze, with the cruise control and comfortable seats the engines power on to your destination with no problems at all. City driving can prove trickier with the all round visibility causing some minor problems. Running this car in the city can also drain the wallet as the fuel economy on the 2.0T engine ranges around 25-27MPG. Although reliability on my vehicle has been incredible. Never had a problem to date on my 98 registered car! Internally the cabin is soundly built and the equipment available make the long journeys very comfortable if not enjoyable. The build quality and size ensures the total feeling of safety when driving this vehicle. Best car I've owned.
There is no getting away from it - the base of this car is 10 years old and, as this is a pre-facelift model, it doesn't benefit from the latest improvements (depending on your view of the new front/back end!).
But, for the money I paid for a 13 month old, 13k miles car of this size, it's great. Superb seats, a robust (if noisy) diesel mated to a sound 5 spd auto box and a unique and noticeable design (outside and the dashboard particularly) makes me very happy.
The fit and finish is generally good. Storage space is no longer really acceptable against today's best cars but there's good space for people and the boot is a large useful space.
I had a 2.3SE a few years back and, with the exception of in a straight line, the car coped with the power in the same way as you would cope with being dragged along by a large over-excited dog. However, this one seems to have a better balance of power delivery. The torque of the 2.2D is almost the same as the old 2.3 petrol which is very handy.
I do hope that, whatever they do next with the 9-5, they keep some individuality.
love it-had my 9-5 se airflow for 2 years-2001 y plate-nothing has gone wrong i do all my own servicing-i refuse to pay dealer prices, the boot is huge-the seats are very comfy-performance is excellent-going to get an aero estate next
