    My car

I currently have a Mercedes C-Class which is nine months old but I have driven the C-Class model for four years now.

I test drove the Octavia for 24 hours and was really surprised at just how much better it was than the Merc. There was no hint of understeer at all even when pointing it at roundabouts at speed to see how it coped and crucially it didn't wobble like a old woman on an assault course like the C-Class Elegance does.

To match the Skoda you have to turn all the electronic gizmos off on the Merc but this is a bit pointless and makes the suspension so hard you get compression fractures in your spine just going over pea shingle.

I was inclined to be sceptical before about the slating Mercedes were getting in customer-satisfaction surveys as mine have always been OK but this is the point they are OK. The Octavia was good and a lot cheaper too. I have now ordered an Octavia estate and won't be going back to the three-pointed star, despite the remarks of my friends and colleagues. They can spend an extra 10 grand on a lower-quality car with a better badge personally I won't.

    My car

I took delivery of my Octavia Estate on the 28/02/05 and drove over 600 miles home, I was well impressed with this car especialy as I had just part exchanged a Honda CRV for it, I averaged over 57 miles to the gallon for my trip home and I wasn't hanging about, whereas with the Honda on the same trip I was lucky to get much more than 20 over all I'm well impressed with this car.

    My car

An excellent car, although it had a diesel engine it drove like a sporty estate. Very comfortable on long drives and economical on diesel. Very difficult to fault. I have two of these cars (the first did not have the PD engine) and I was very pleased with both of them.
