    My car

this is the first skoda i have owned and i have to say i love it to bits. its easily the best car i have ever owned. its very nice to drive comfortable and very good looking. mine is 1999 lx sdi version and it does nearly 60mpg its fantasic. yeah i know its the non turbo version and people say it has no grunt, but it has more than enough. it pulls great on motorways. mine is an ex private hire car with 257,000 on the clock and it still drives fantastic, the only downside i would say is that its a little basic inside but overall its a fab car to own and run. im 23 and the insurance is extremely reasonable, its actually cheaper than the 1.4rt clio i used to own. the only thing ive had to replace on it are the battery, tyres and the cambelt, thats it, its the most relable car ive ever owned. i would definately buy another and then another after that!!. overall if you want a fantastically relaible and cheap to run car, this is it!!!!!

    My car

ok first off ive read most off the reviews published here and i have driven allmost every tdi and sdi from the classic to the comfort the laurin and klement and the elegance and sports vr and vrs from the ocatvia to the superb and my advice is if you are going to buy or are thinking about buying a skoda test drive a few stay clear of the ocatvia sdi range known as the classic most of them are JUNK and when they hit the ton mark they need nothing but repairs, the better made octavias superbs are not to bad though 50mpg on a 1.9 or 2.0 tdi is bs you will get a good return but more like 40 to 45 on a run and 30 to 35 stop start also check the cars history if its been used as a taxi stay clear also skoda do not take trade ins against old skodas unless they are newish so you will loose a lot of money on the car once you sell my honest opinion would be if it was my money i wouldnt buy one i would buy a vw passat/bora the parts and repairs on the skodas are not as cheap as everyone says they are and god forbid you need a new gearbox finding a good pre owned is like finding goldust the passat is the better choice and you will get a better return if you sell better made and very rarely need gearboxes replaced better clutches to skodas are cheap to buy but you only get what you pay for nowadays and what you save at first could cost you a fortune in the long run

    My car

Previously owned the SDI model which went through three gearboxes and endless clutch problems.Back in Sep 2006 I was convinced to buy the TDI model and that I would not experience the same gearbox problems. So in sept 2006 I took delivery of my brand new 56 plate TDI,wasn,t long before the problems started nov 2006 the windscreen motor packed in got that fixed under warranty .went about a year with no major problems then the gearbox trouble reared it's ugly head again. In oct 2007 and with 40000 miles on the clock the car crunched going into 2nd gear so back in to the dealership for a new gearbox So now into sep 2008 with my warranty fast approaching its expiry date (18th) I now find myself having to return to my dealership for another gearbox repair (crunching selecting reverse)So between my 2 octavia's they will have had a total of 6 gearboxes.Having experinced octavia's for 7 years nobody in the world would convince me to buy another one. I cannot wait until november to get rid of it and for any one to say my experience was horrific would be an understatement. Absolute junk !!!!!!!

    My car

I have just bought a new A4 Octavia, having previously owned an 02 model sdi and a new version A5 ambiente 05. The 02 was quite simply the best car i have ever owned in terms of running costs, reliability and joy of ownership. I'm a taxi driver so the 50 plus mpg is fantastic, the only faults it ever had in 100k miles was a faulty wiper motor and a clicky indicator relay, both common faults and both rectified under warranty, the 05 ambiente was a greater joy with no problems at all in 20k miles, unfortunately i was swayed by a shiny BMW 530d se and disposed of my beloved skoda. Lot's of niggling faults then 3 days out of warranty a blown turbo saw the bmw off and replaced with a mercedes c class. Lovely car but in todays economic climate it just isn't viable as a taxi. Oh joy when i discovered i could still buy the old shape Octavia for only £10400 brand new on the road, so here i am sitting patiently for my 08 plate skoda to arrive, many happy years motoring ahead, Would i recomend them. DEFINATELY. Cheap to buy , cheap to run, quality of a Volkswagen at a fraction of the cost. Its my marmite car, you either love 'em or hate 'em
