    My car

I purchased this car as an ex demo with 5k on the clock and from the test drive I was really impressed.

I traded a BMW 316 touring which was not a patch on the Skoda. The quality of finish, mechanics and appearance, drivability and handling coupled with the price make the VRS a winner.

As a serving fire officer using my car to travel to incidents ( fitted with blue lights and sirens) I have always found the Skoda to be sure foooted and quick.

Its reputation has grown within my colleagues as they see the quality and reliability which I have experienced.

I have considered changing the car but have yet to find a vehicle which measures up to the Octavia VRs.

I would have to pay twice the money for a similar performance vehicle. The boot space is massive and easily swallows all my fire kit and related equipment with room for the fortnightly shopping at Tesco.

I have also travelled south to the airports with 3 mates and all our skis and luggage for a 2 week holiday in total comfort without any hitches.

I would totally recommend this car to your readers as it has comfort, space, performance, reliability, appearance and is great value for money.

    My car

A family car that puts a smile on your face!

I have owned four VW Golfs, the last of which was a MK4 estate. The Octavia VRS is better in every respect.

Group 16 insurance is the only downside as my car is returning around 32mpg. It has more performance than I really need, superb handling, grip and ride quality. And its level of equipment is generous.

The quality of the build is as good, if not better, than VW. But the materials used for the interior are not quite up to VW standards.

The new Octavia has solved this minor niggle - the cabin is superb. Rear legroom is poor for tall adults (as it is on the Golf that the Octavia is based on). The boot space in the Octavia hatch is comparable with the boot on the Golf estate.

Overall, well done Skoda. This has got to be the best value driver's car in the UK (and your passengers don't suffer)!

    My car

I own an Octavia vRS 2002 model.

The driving postion is excellent. The braking is superb with ABS and traction control. Build quality is up to Volkswagen's usual standard. The car is fairly heavy on front tyres and at £130 plus VAT each, it can be quite expensive to replace, but overall the car is brilliant value for money.

It's a good-sized family car, with a massive boot. It has outstanding performance. The 40,000-mile service at the dealers can cost £350 + but overall an outstanding car for little money.

    My car

It's a great car, that gives an excellent blend of fun and practicality at a bargain price.

Interior Scotchguard is well worth the money to help keep the light fabrics looking good.

The only downside is that thieves do like them! I have had several attempts made to steal mine, as have numerous other people that I have spoken to. Therefore it is worth investing in a tracker, and displaying this with stickers in the windows.

    Otherwise a good driver's car.
