I have had some considerable electronic problems with this car, which I have had since new, but the dealership has been exceedingly good and has managed to sort them all out.
It is one of the most impressive cars I have ever owned. (I've had 17 to date.)
I took delivery of my new Octavia 2.0 FSI Elegance on July 1 and it has been an unalloyed pleasure so far.
The car drives superbly, the ride is smooth, the level of trim generous and it seems to run on the very smell of petrol. I can get myself and girlfriend plus enough luggage and gear for a fishing trip into the car with room to spare. This is amazing considering previous cars I owned, including small estates, sometimes struggled to cope.
The CD multichanger (standard fit) is fantastic, though the set up of the speaker system and auto-tuning of the radio could be simpler.
All in all, I love the car. I was treated very well by the dealer before and during delivery and would recommend anyone to seriously consider the Octavia if they are looking for a quality good-value mid-size family car.
I have the Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance with the DSG gearbox.
This gearbox is the best I have ever driven - that includes our current Jaguar S-type. You cannot tell when it makes changes and it suits the engine. The engine is not as noisy as I was led to belive from road tests in magazines.
The power comes in at about 2000rpm and it pulls like a sports car and sounds like one. The ride and road holding are very similar to our S-type: firm but comfortable.
The ride on my previous car, a 2002 Suburu 3.0 Legacy Outback, was softer but not as direct.
I am glad I decided to stick with the standard wheels and suspension. I was tempted to have the larger wheels and the sports suspension but after reading your test report I took your advice and stuck with the standard one as where I live the roads are poor.
The interior and fittings are better than both the Jaguar and the Suburu in the way they fit and the quality. I have leather seats in my Skoda, just as I had in my Suburu and Jaguar, and, while I think the Jaguar's driver's seat cossets me more and seems to fit my back better, the way I feel after a long drive is just the same.
The design of the interior the Skoda wins hands down with the standard of fit and all the storage spaces. the dash has been well thought out - all the air-con, radio knobs and dials are all handy to use.
If the car had air-con it would be perfect. When I get in the car I have big smile on my face because I know I will enjoy driving this car. Why I waste money on BMWs and Minis.
