This car really is SUPERB. I drive this car between Spain and the UK up to four times a year. It is very comfortable and not tiring to drive. The cruise control and Sat Nav take care of the hard work. Why pay £££ss more for the Audi A4 its only a badge and does not do the job any better. Skodas Fabia and Octavia are excellent but the Superb is exactly that.
Having had 3 Passats as previous cars, I was persuaded to go for the Superb this time because of more space and better spec. I was happy with all the Passats but having had this car from new since 2006, I can categorically say that this is the best car I have ever had. I have done 43,000 miles in it. It has had one set of tyres, 3 services and absolutely nothing wrong at all. A first class car.
I had to say something... I have owned this vehicle for just over 3 years, in which time I have covered over 90,000 miles. Not one single failure of anything!!! In 20 years of driving I have never experienced such reliability(Audi, Honda, VW, BMW's & Ford's had always let me down in some way. The vehicle was always serviced at a Skoda dealer, the dealer always cleaned it and was always excellent value for money, friendly & helpful. Yes, in this time I have been given a little stick about the "skoda" image. But that has been the only tiny issue, It has proven to be a excellent long haul vehicle, fast enough to get in & out of trouble & frugal too, fantastic seats and all the toys, even the standard Sat-Nav never let me down. Apart from being a long-wheel base Passat/A6 with lower than average residuals and having a very tough name to live up to. I have been left with a changed attitude & a warm fuzzy feeling of smugness.
Problems with the DPF regeneration system are making me mad. About once per month I have to take it onto the motorway and "drive in 4th or 5th at > 60kph with rpm's between 2000 and 3000" in order to clean out the DPF. Twice the car has went into low power safe mode due to being in town when the DPF regenerate warning light came on - was not able to meet these conditions and thus the ECU goes into low power mode. This can only be reset by the dealer or by VAG assist. Do not buy a VAG diesel with a DPF.
