Having driven all the major players in this class, I found the Smart a refreshing change to the norm. It is fun to drive, quick and is very economical.
I now own the 1.5cdi (95) and I love getting up in the morning because I know I get to drive it to work.
As for discounts, if you haggle with some good online prices, you can get £1000 of the r.r.p.
If I find any problems I will review again.
Having owned my Forfour now for six weeks I have to say that it has surpassed my expectations and is simply superb in all respects. Fast, frugal beyond belief and great fun to drive, as well being a real head turner. So far so good, but I'll let you know if there's any problems.
I have just finished a mind-boggling day test driving cars in the supermini category.
The Smart Forfour was a refreshing change to main stream volume cars and although it's on the more expensive side, I like it .
At last a four-door Smart, this is an excellent car it handles better than any other car in its class, although it doesn't have the same feeling from the steering like its biggest rival the Mini.
However, it has an excellent diesel. The one which I tested with 95bhp was powerful and smooth and had a very unusual sound - it sounded like a six-cylinder boxer engine and it didn't clatter about like many.
The only thing I found very disappointing was the boot space if you have someone sitting in the back, you have very little boot space - but then you don't buy a Smart to move house in.
The forfour handles brilliantly little body-roll through corners and a perfect ride that offers handling without compromising the smooth ride.
Unfortunately it is too expensive.
