USED Smart Forfour Hatchback (04 - 07)

My car

About five months ago I did a costing thing with Seat Alhambra over a given five months at that time. This included all the mileage, insurance, road tax one service and fuel cost.

I then did the same with the Forfour Diesel 1.5 cdi 95bhp version, with the figures I came up with I could not believe the savings, ok there is a size difference but I had to do this just to see what they would be. £1400 saved over the five month period.

So I got one, had it now for about five months now and wow!!!, how else can I put it. It took a while to get used to the lack of room, going from a seven seater to a four seater, with just enough room for my tools and stuff, but it works well for what I need. Performance is great fun and a full tank is around £35.00 now and not £70.00 and that is over about 2-3 weeks of driving. Motorway driving is what I do a lot of and it's like any large family car, smooth and responsive with the power you need to cruse. I get about 380miles to one tank + or - on motorway driving, to me this is great.

Why they ever stopped making them who knows but they are stupid to do so. Your driving a Merc, what more could you ask for. Quality build, solid, stylish design, unique. I have read that some don't like the hard ride, I love it.

If you can get one, test drive it and compare it with others in the same group, I think you'll be amazed.

Better still, just go and get one.....

My car

Sorry to say I am pathetically in love with my new car... And as there are so few around especially in Brisbane it feels very exclusive.... I have owned my Smart 1.5 Pulse for 5 glorious weeks.. I'm addicted to the trip computer. I went to visit my Mum on Bribie Island and she averaged 5.1l/100 km.. (yes it is a she and yes she has a name Smartie)..

I have no idea if it is better or worse than other cars - I just love it! I love catching a glimpses of us driving in shop windows - So pathetic and shallow I know!

My car

I have owned my 1.1 passion for nearly a year and have done 20k miles in it.

I love it, I love the fact it is so rare, I love its styling, its unique three pot exhaust note, the hugely impressive economy, the glass panorama roof, the excellent service at Mercedes in Leeds who seem to know who a 'customer' is. It is very nippy around town, light and nimble and given a smooth surface it handles really well but is a bit too firm on rough surfaces.

I have had a few niggles all immediately sorted under warranty including having the seat base relined. The only real downsides are the seat height adjuster - it does irk me as my bottom catches it every time I get in and lowers the seat, the doors need quite a slam to close them and the door handle is too far forward and the electric window switches are centrally mounted under the handbrake.

I am gutted Smart have dropped it as I might have upgraded to a Brabus next time.

My car

This car is great fun to own and drive. I've had it for a couple of months now and I've only seen two other ForFours - one in a town 40 miles east of my home and one in a town 15 miles west of my home so this car is more exclusive than an Aston or a Ferrari - seen several of both since I bought this wonderful little car.

I have only three niggles, and they are relatively minor as far as I'm concerned: 1) The suspension is a little firm around town but this makes cornering on B roads, at speed, a real joy. 2) The interior storage space is very poor and 3) 500ml bottles keep falling over because the cup holders aren't deep enough. But hey! the driving experience more than makes up!

I love the economy, I love the acceleration, I love the glass roof and the climate control, I love the cheeky design and the slidable back seat, and I love the exclusivity. What more can I say? This is a real fun car to own and to drive and I always find myself smiling at people when I'm driving - surely that's a good thing.
