    My car

Excellent to drive with good accurate steering. Good view out across the bonnet and you can see each corner. Averaged 26.4 mpg over 460 miles motorways and a roads. Car always felt safe and secure and the brakes were particularly sensitive. Good level of equipment and I just loved the enormous electric sunroof! Subaru should not bother with the body kit.

    My car

I took the Forester 2.5 XT for a 24 hour test drive. It has competent handling and amazing acceleration (0-60 is around 6 secs). Having said that, the ride quality is somewhat short of executive standards, so those upgrading from executive load-luggers will have some mental adjustment to undertake. Sadly, the Subaru dealer didn't want to sell one, and the head office hasn't been too good at responding to my written queries on why not either.

    My car

I drive a Forester 2.0XT. It is excellent for my job which involves travel throughout Scotland including some off-road work in forestry and rural estates. I drive about 25 - 30,000 miles per year. The Forester does this well.

Driving is fun and overtaking is swift and safe, roadholding excellent. I have had 6 Legacies and the Forester continues with the sure-footed nature engendering confidence in the car.

Maintenance costs are reasonable. Tyres are lasting over 25,000 miles and the only real complaint is fuel consumption. My best result was 34 mpg on a run from Stirling to Portree but the norm is less than 30mpg. Space inside is a little limited - I am 6ft 4in tall and the driving position is a little cramped and the pedals are slightly off-set to the left which over time can be annoying. When all five of us, two teenage daughters, wife, labrador and me are on board, we use a roof box for luggage. Subaru's own roof bars fit quickly and securely. I have taken the Forester in convoy with Landrovers and other 4X4s on shoots over grouse moors and muddy tracks without ever falling behind and often with greater ease.
