THIS IS MY FIRST TOYOTA AND I MUST SAY WHAT A LOVELY CAR IT IS.THERE WAS JUST ONE FAULT THE BRAKES MAKING A NOISE WHEN PULLING UP.TOOK IT TO MY TOYOTA GARAGE IN KNARESBOROUGH.THEY FIXED IT AND THEY WHERE GREAT.
I took Toyota for a test "spin" last week. Car handles very well, 1.6 engine is responsive, quiet and does very good job for it's class even if you compare to the competition. The gears change is very smooth (again much better than some competitors) and i like "shift" indicator. The car is very comfortable to drive and roomy inside. The driving position is excellent. Maybe the handbrake is unusual and some plastics could be (feel) better quality but who cares? I was interested in 5* NCAP test result. I tested Golf, Astra, Mazda 3 and Focus. My new Auris arrives in few days so can not really comment on running costs.
I have just replaced my old style Avensis with the Auris, which seems to have more space, a slightly awkward handbrake, and quite firm seats, giving a bit of a bumpy ride. Also, a thick, thick front door pillar gives a bit of a blind spot. But good adjustment of the seat and steering wheel gives a good driving position. There's plenty of room for five adults, with good space in the boot. All in all a good replacement if you want to downsize, but lose no interior space.
I test-drove an Auris 1.4 D4D MMT here in Italy, as I'm looking for a new car.
I thought the car was spacious inside and the engine seems good from what I can tell from the 30-minute test drive. The only thing that put me off buying it is that the 1.4 has no diesel particulate filter, and the plastics look pretty cheap and nasty.
Even a 1500 Euro discount was not enough to convince me. The only other option (with a DPF) is the 2.0-litre, but this does not have an automatic transmission and still looks cheap and nasty inside.
