I took delivery of an 03-plate LC5 last month, having test-driven the Land Rover Discovery, Mitsubishi Shogun, Nissan Pathfinder and Volvo XC90.
The strengths of this car are well documented by other reviewers - but what I want to mention is how relaxed I feel after long drives in this car and its sheer versatility.
I commute from Kent to Canary Wharf five days a week - the car is simply a brilliant environment to be in for this trip. At the weekends, I transport my family (four children) around, go shopping, take things to the municipal tip - again effortlessly and everybody loves the space and kit the car comes with.
I am hugely impressed. This is a great car - it really is.
Having just completed my first 1500 miles, I'm finding it very difficult to find any fault with this vehicle.
I needed a Land Cruiser that was also capable of good off-road performance, and to my mind this is the best in its class and price range.
Economy has been as expected and generally as publicised, both in town and on motorways. The off-road capabilities are very impressive, especially when you consider that I permanently carry a heavy payload in the boot.
The steering wheel audio controls would have been a bonus, but I'm not particularly disappointed with this, as the general level of cabin gadgets is incredible. I'm wondering what I ever did before having parking sensors front and rear!
I had test drives with all, yes I mean all, of the competitors and nothing was anywhere near the LC4 in my opinion.
I bought a new 06-plate Toyota Land Cruiser 4 after test driving the Volvo XC90, Land Rover Discovery and Toyota Land cuiser.
I would have appreciated it if the rear seats could have been moved independently (like the XC90) and could be removed to create more space. Also, the floor-folding third row of seats would have been better. The last row of seats does not have much knee height, so they're really only fit for childrens. However, eight seats as standard is a boon.
The drive is great and the engine is powerful. I haven't tried it off-road yet, but everyone says it is the ultimate king there.
I would also have liked an auto-dipping rear view mirror and steering wheel-mounted controls.
It's a great car overall and good value for money.
I own a 2.7 Petrol 4 CYL model not available in the UK. Fantastic Off road, desert, mud, snow I have tried it everywhere! It is a 5 star off road vehicle. Very controlled handling, comfortable ride & practical interior.
My father liked it so much bought the 3.0 Diesel model in Spain, an excellent variant, also have driven the 4.0 V6 very powerful but thirsty.
A very sensible purchase, a must for the off roader!
