I purchased a new TOYOTA RAV4 D4D 5dr in Sept.2002 during the warranty period the vehicle had a new gearbox fitted,a new water pump and cam belt fitted,a replacement pulley and belts,a replacement spare wheel cover as the original came adrift, new parts fitted to the disc brakes as they were clicking when the brakes were applied.Since the vehicle has been out of warranty at 74K the dual mass flywheel and clutch have failed costing £1,800. Toyota Customer Care do not want to know and have refused assistance. I have had the vehicle serviced at Sturgess Leicester since new. Having read all the motoring press write ups about thr RAV4 I was pursuaded to purchase, what a mistake! TOYOTA/LEXUS quality and reliability is a myth and customer care is appalling. Have you been treated in this way by Toyota? Have you had flywheel/clutch problems with this brand? Toyota need to be exposed for producing a product not fit for purpose and not of merchantable quality.

My wife and I are both really happy with our T180. We were really surprised just how well the T180 performs and regularly surprise other road users too!
The car is comfortable for 5 adults (the flat floor at the rear helps), with a good level of equipment and the servicing isn't too expensive either. I've also found the dealers to be friendly and helpful.
I'll echo the concerns of other reviewers regarding the fuel consumption, if you drive with a light right foot you'll get high 30's but if you start to enjoy the full 175bhp you'll get nearer 30! Also, the price of replacement run flat tyres can be very expensive.
If you can afford the slightly higher running costs (compared to the rest of the Rav 4 range) you wont be disappointed!
I bought this as a replacement for my two-year-old RAV4 2.0 VVTi and have had no end of problems with it.
To start with, the gearknob gives me an allergy as it contains nickel... Toyota is not interested - they told me to go to Halfords!)
The seatbelt buckles keep turning around the wrong way, causing them to bang against the interior when driving. I've been back to the dealer several times and have had three replacement ribbons, but there's still the same problem. Again, Toyota is not interested.
The fuel injectors failed after 19,000 miles and after further investigation, I found that this is a common problem with all newer Toyota diesels. The car was off the road for 10 days because there was a backlog of problem injectors.
Also, the privacy glass was peeling from the rear window - Toyota was not interested.
Toyota's customer service has been appalling - this is my third new car from them and most definitely my last. I bought this on the back of Toyota's reliability record, but that record is slipping fast.
Vision is good, drive is not bad and it looks quite good HOWEVER! The build quality of this car is soooo poor!! and the customer survice of Toyota is extremely bad!!
10,000 Miles Fan belt squeeling 12,000 Miles Tracking is way out and the Tracking Arm need replacing Constant rattles from day one, from the dash and the stop light Gear stick vibrates in 5th @ 2500 rpm + loud nois 17000 Miles "Clunk" on front end when breaking.
No joy at the dealership with the Clunk and Toyota uk did not return my calls.
I would not be given let alone buy a Toyota in the future!
