After 4 years of ownership, I think it's time to part exchange the Astra for a Ford or something Japanese as I'm very disappointed in the mechanical build of this car. 1st problem was, the car went through the front set of tyres within 3000 miles, 2nd, whilst travelling down the motorway the car decided to drop its coolant, 3rd, it started to drop diesel due to a faulty fuel pump. That was replaced but since then the car has broken down twice due to the same problem. The car is very very noisy at motorway speed so you literally have to shout at your passenger just so they can hear you. I do not like this car at all anymore and that's why it's up for sale. I purchased a 12 year old Escort for a run around which I have found to be much more fun to drive if I’m honest and has a few extras more than the Astra.
Nice motor to drive. Bit disappointed with the fuel consumption at times. Had the car from 6m old and now got 46K on the clock. Just had to have a new radiator due to old one having a leak. Garage where i had the work carried out stated that the problem was down to a manufacturing fault. Their reasoning was that, the radiator was fitted up too tight to the fan housing. Contacted Vauxhall, but got the standard reply - no one else had reported this problem.
used to have 1.7 sri it is brilliant to drive and i got a vw jetta now grip in the astra was better. seats are ok on long jouneys and sport swich is fabuluas £7600
My partner and I bought this car back in April this year and are pleased with what it has and how it drives. It has all the things you really need without adding too many gadgets and gizmos - air con, remote CD player, electric mirrors, windows etc etc. Driving long distances is easy and comfortable - we have done a run from Bristol to Scotland and back with no issues at all. Fuel-wise it's not bad on the motorway, although a little more expensive (of course) around town, but overall pretty good. Handling is good and parking is easy enough as you don't always realise how much space is behind - perhaps parking sensors would be an advantage here? Ours is 3 years old and has covered 93k with lots of life left in it yet. We have the common clutch judder and cold starting problem at the moment, but it's not too bad and not giving us too much to worry about. In summary, a good all round car that's comfortable and great value for money. I would certainly recommend one to anyone.
