Do not buy one of these cars, the petrol engines have a major fault with the ignition system. The ignition coils and crankshaft position sensor are weak and will fail. The engine will miss fire or have trouble starting. If this happens, take it to the nearest independent garage. Avoid Vauxhall dealers, their diagnostic computers cannot detect the fault so they will replace parts at random and at your expense. Mine broke down 2 days after it was serviced by a Vauxhall dealer and a day after the warranty expired. Vauxhall UK did not want to know and the dealer refused to see the car. After 2 Vauxhall dealers tried to fix it and unnecessarily replaced 2 major components at a charge of £500 it broke down again. Thankfully the RAC recovered the car and found the fault instantly and an independent garage fixed the car for £40. By the way the car has just broken down again, one of the unnecessarily replaced components failed after 13months, just as its warranty expired.

    My car

Avoid this car!! I have had this car for one year and i am finally getting rid of it. The main problem is sluggish performance to say the least. I am not a speedy driver but this really is like a tortoise, even when dropping the gears to get some power its shocking. The car itself is sturdy and drives well but its embarrassing when approaching even the smallest incline and the car begins to slow down unless you drop to 2nd/3rd gear to get it to move. I am trading this is in for a bigger engine size i may still go for a vauxhall astra but higher spec. I would not recommend this car. I also complained numerous times to vauxhall and the dealer to no avail, they did offer to look at the car but would not offer a courtesy car to do so,i am glad to see the back of it.

    My car

Good points: High quality cabin, good exterior styling Bad points: very poor fuel consumption. Between 21-23mpg around town and 33-35mpg on the motorway. Compares with Honda Civic 1.8 petrol previously owned of 28/42 on these cycles. Vauxhall dealer blames 'driver driving style' ,which was entirely expected, but insulting none the less.
