USED Vauxhall Signum Hatchback (03 - 08)

My car

Not sure why most "professional" reviews have been poor for this vehicle. If you judge the vehicle on it's own merits, it is a sound vehicle. Previously owned a BMW 320I saloon and changed to this model for family reasons - which I was not looking forward too. However : Very economical, getting around 48 to 50 MPG on average Performance is good, better when moving as turbo lag at low speeds can be a problem. Very comfortable, and handling seems very good for a front wheel drive car bearing in mind it's size. Space is very practical for a family. Effectively 4 seats which means plenty of room for the kids and luggage. Overall very satisfied and no problems with running...so far.

First week of ownership. Got an 06 56 plate for £12k from network Q, not bad for a car that was £26k new! Went from a Vectra 2.2dti elite into a more "premium" VW for 6 months, now back into a proper car. Love the fact that the Signum is a rarity on the roads,and am still amazed at what you get for your money when buying second hand vauxhalls. I can't understand whatcars review of this car, someone there must really dislike this car. From my short time with this car it ticks all the boxes for me. The car is fantastic on the motorway, civilised around town, with plenty of room for a family of 4. Yes the middle seat really is for short journeys, but I would suggest if you drive around fully loaded up all the time you will probably go for a MPV. This car is a great second hand buy. Let the drones buy their BMW's and Audis, I'd rather use the money I've saved on a nice holiday!!

The running costs were not that economical, although the car was nice to drive and very spacious inside.

Due to the number of problems I have had with this vehicle over the last two years, I have now part-exchanged this car because there were too many for my comfort. The car was a 2005 model.

My car

I've owned this car for 2.5yrs and driven it for 85k miles. In that time it's had the following work done to it; New auto box (£4k), new fuel pump (£2.5K), new turbo (£1k), total fuel line replacement, new intercooler, several sets of suspension bushes and a the wiring loom chafed on the chassis blowing the ECM and fusebox (£600 just before Xmas). All but the last item were covered under warranty. If you do your research there are major horror stories about the 2.2Dti. 2.0Dti and the newer 1.9 diesels. Vauxhall know about the faults but despite pressure from owners forums refuse to acknowledge the issues. Other than that the car is comfortable, fine to drive and averages 37mpg. Servicing is cheap with 20k intervals and pattern parts are readily available to keep costs down. My relationship with Vauxhall will end within a few months, I cannot wait to P/X this car for another marque. Not recommended.
