    My car

I wrote a review shortly after I bought the car in June '07 which concluded that the Vectra is a great package for the money. Now 50,000 miles later I maintain that view and have been, on the whole, very happy with the car.

The Vectra has proved to be a stonking workhorse, and the 150bhp diesel has all the performance I need whilst consistently returning in excess of 50 mpg. It is a fast and comfortable drive. After a few thousand miles you even get used to the silly indicators.

Mechanically, it hasn't flinched and has never been off the road. One service and two tyres have cost me less than £400 in total. The gear knob has come off a couple of times and a slat of the air vent has broken - but on the basis that this car was a fraction of the price of premium competitors I really can't complain, and those minor faults will be rectified under warranty at the next service.

The Vectra is incredible value for money second hand, although the value keeps on dropping once you've bought it. I've just checked the current value on the WhatCar site and mine's now worth almost half what I paid for it 16 months ago! Less that 2 years old and less than £7K! An absolute bargain.

    My car

This is my second Elite, both with the 1.9 diesel 120ps engine and I've covered about 70k miles in both over the last 5 years. A very spacious and comfortable car with excellent mpg but good power when needed. I've owned the present car for over 2 years and in that time have averaged 48.7 mpg on a wide selection of roads and journies. Good points: I love the 'extras' such as cruise control, heated leather seats, climate control, computer etc. and the cabin and boot space. Bad points: The gear change could be smoother and while it loves the motorway and main roads, it's not so smooth on roads with the slightest of potholes. I had a problem with the climate control fan and it was repaired under warranty by my excellent local Vauxhall dealer without quibble.

    My car

I had to write a review on this excellent car to redress the negative comments that people had posted! I have had the Vectra SRI 1.9CDTI (150) NAV XP for 18 months now and done 55k miles, so I think I'm in a position to comment on the car.

Before I chose it, I test drove several other cars (Rav 4, Mazda 6, VW Passat, Audi A3) and found the Vectra to be the smoothest, quickest and most comfortable of the lot. It is still great to drive either on winding roads or motorway (where it excels) and I am happy with the fuel economy, on a motorway run I get 50mpg easily. Since getting the car I have averaged 43.7mpg on the last 55k miles.

People that queried my decision to get a Vectra (I could have had a poverty spec BMW 318!) have all changed their opinions once they have ridden in, or driven the Vectra.

I often spend 6 hours a day in the car, so can vouch for the comfort and support of the seats.

It looks great (covered in spoilers and with 19inch wheels) and the sat nav is a real plus.

There are some negatives... The sat-nav only takes the first 5 digits of a postcode, there are no electric windows in the back, and most importantly, the tyres on the 19inch wheels are difficult to get hold of and for Conti's, cost circa £220 each. So bear this in mind!

I'd recommend it, and I'll probably get the Insignia next.

    My car

I have had 3 vectras had the 1.9 diesal for 2 months on a 07 plate awfull car hated it no refinment at all diesal in my citreon van was more refined! only good thing was fuel economy, 2.0 litre turbo best on my 2nd now with x pack and 19 rubber awsome drivers car no trouble or rattles like tractor diesal!and faster than deisel despite what people say! only downside economy not brill but well worth for refinement and power, insurence good to and cheap to maintain my advice if you want diesal go for 3litre, stay well clear of 1.9 no torque between 1 and 2000 revs awfull!
