We have owned this car since July 2006, and it hasn't missed a beat. The Golf Plus is the most reliable car that I have ever owned. My car is maintained by South Hereford Garages (VW main dealer), and all servicing has been carried out to my complete satisfaction. My only negative comment is that the boot is rather small.
Two years on and 16,000 miles later, the Golf Plus went to Peter Cooper, Portsmouth for the first service, that included aircon check and oil change. I give this garage a very good rating both in terms of attention to detail. All I have done is to put petrol in the car; some minor niggles on delivery have been resolved (or put another way I'm no longer aware of them).
On 5th August after a steady run on 30 and 40mph speed limit roads, the fuel consumption was shown as a whopping 58.7 mpg - not bad at all for a 1.6 petrol. I have got more and more used to the raised seating position and find that I am having to really struggle extracting myself from my wife's Mini Cooper!
All in all it has been a nice car and I would seriously think about buying another.
I have owned the car since June 06, having been very much a Honda man until then. The Golf Plus competes directly with my last Honda, the 2003 Civic 1.6 SE. There is no comparison. The VW is superior in every respect. Better fuel consumption, sharper feel and handling, better finishes, much better equipped. It's quieter, more comfortable and more versatile. Equipment-wise, it makes the Honda look and feel like a base model eg. auto door locks, variable radio volume, auto lights, auto wipers, cruise control, tec. A winner.
