We've just driven our Jetta on a 2000 mile trip to Italy and back. The car is very comfortable, 16 hours of travelling and no aching legs or back. On the return trip, the car swallowed myself, partner and our two babies and luggage with no problems; the car is as big as our 1999 Ford Mondeo. Handling is excellent, I span it through the Italian mountains and had great fun. My other car is a Porsche 911, so that's high praise! Ride quality is good.
Fuel economy very good, averaged 44mpg over the trip and we weren't taking it easy. Equipment levels are OK if not spectacular. The car makes Audi A4s look very over-priced. One gripe: the iPod connector is useless; get a CD changer instead. Some of the plastics aren't quite up to Golf Mk 4 standards, but it's still a very nice cabin.
If you're considering an SE, definitely go for the Sport. The extra aluminium trim in the cabin, bigger wheels and lower suspension turn it into a fantastic looking car. I love looking at it, especially in the Platinum Grey that we chose.
Our options were: leather, rear tinted windows,iPod connector, parking sensors, heated seats. Ignore the built-in satnav, a £250 TomTom is far superior.
This car replaced a Skoda Octavia with the same engine. I've done abot 5000 miles now and I am delighted with the car so far. Kit levels are generous and I ticked a few option boxes too - cruise, sensor pack, winter pack, Grand Prix alloys, CD changer. It handles very well, much better than the Octavia although the ride is much firmer. Performance is good although the engine is still loosening up. Economy is great, I have got up to 64mpg on a trip (I was trying hard!) and I average around 53mpg over a 500 mile week.
I love the way the car looks and the build quality is first rate. The LCD rear lights are fantastic and I love the blue and red dash and instrument lighting! You also don't see many on the road. Don't buy a Passat, save two grand and buy a Jetta!
I have had this car for nearly 3 weeks and travelled over 1200 miles. I think the ride and handling are really good. The seats are very comfortable and the standard kit is good. My only gripe is the road noise which is quite annoying at high speed on a motorway. Fuel consumption is not as good as specified, but isn't bad. I am getting about 46mpg on motorway runs.
I have now had my car for just 1 week and I am totally satisfied with the car.I previously had a Bora TDI Sport for over 3 years.Great car, shame about the name, amazing fuel comsumption,no trouble at all during ownership.Bought the Jetta as a direct replacement, considered the Passat but just too big.Went for Leather,DSG Automatic, cruise, rear sensors.I am absolutely over the moon about the car, handles really well and looks so good on the road.Only down side is the fuel consumption, not as good as the Bora but it is a heavier car. What a boot its huge. The automatic gearbox is amazing, you can hardly feel any changes and it is so quick.Insurance is good too, cheaper than the equivalent Bora.I rate it very highly, but early days yet.No wonder it is so popular in America
