USED Volkswagen Passat Estate (99 - 05)

My car

Ive had my car for nearly 5 years now. It was bought in 06 after its first MOT with 120k on the clock. It was an ex-fleet car with FSH. Now its on 155k and in that time since new, apart from service items, its had a rediator, and coolant temp sensor. Thats it. The guy who had it before me said that it never wanted for anything except service items. Its also still on its origonal factory clutch! Tyre wear is practicly non existent on mine. On a run its up in the 55+ MPG and even towing a 1300kg caravan it returns 28-30mpg. There are no rattles inside and everything still works. I was lucky enough to find one with heated seats and cruise + dual climate. If you dont do racing starts with these due to sensitve DM flywheel, treat them well, and put in the correct oil (very important on PD's), these go on forever! Best car ive ever owned. A guy below said his turbo went at 140K, what do you expect if you remap to over 160BHP? DOH.

My car

I have just gotten my second Passat - I traded in the Tiptronic auto - I've been so used to manual cars. I must say I'm impressed with the handling and responsiveness of the manual 'box, as opposed to the auto. The engine is a little on the noisy side, but it's something that can be drowned out by the excellent 6-CD autochanger stereo. High levels of trim are great - electric windows all round, climate-controlled air con is a nice touch. My mrs likes my previous Vectra (don't ask) but the Vauxhall's trim levels can's hold a candle to the Passat.

The only negative has been the 'air flow meter' issue, but this can be cured by replacing the suction pipe. You will have to use 'PD oil' as opposed to regular oil, so beware, as PD oil is £14 a bottle for just a litre (gasp!)

A good car, and reliable workhorse. I have sailed through 144,000 in mine, and 5 years on, it can still top 120mph (don't tell any cops that!)...:)

My car

I bought my nine year old car from a friend who had owned it from new and have covered 20,000 miles in six months (no i'm not a taxi driver!)with no major problems.Present mileage is 130,000 and apart from new brake pads and oil changes,the only repair bills have been for a sticking rear brake calliper and a new "C Link" on the front NS suspension. This was causing a knocking sound when driving over uneven surfaces.My local garage couldn't find the fault but an independent VW specialist diagnosed the problem straight away. Oil only needs a top up every 1500 miles or so,while fuel consumption works out at 10 miles/litre or 45 mpg.However, the on board fuel computer is optomistic by about 5mpg! Motorway cruising is relaxed - 5th gear gives 30mph/1000rpm.I could be mean and nasty and say that the power and acceleration is not as good as my old Citroen Xantia turbo diesel (a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 will give you a run for your money!) but overall i am very pleased with this car.

My car

I bought this car new and it has now covered 85000 miles in four and a half years. During this time, it has had a new water pump (replaced just before the end of the warranty) and nothing else apart from services and tyres. It is an automatic diesel and still manages about 42 mpg at 80mph. It is spacious, comfortable and quiet with excellent equipment levels, even though this is only an S level model. The next owner will be buying a real gem at the bargain price of just over £5000 when I change vehicles later this year. Well done VW!
