Just bought new passat 3.2 sel and very pleased.
Thought volkswagen could have designed inside better but overall it's brilliant.
This looks the part, if you're going for the middle management look.
I am driving this as a courtesy car, having had an old BMW 318 coupe. The handling has no comparison. The Passat is wider and corners like a boat. There is no low rev grunt, and whilst the ride is quiet, it stalls readily at low revs.
The climate control is effective, but it drinks the fuel, and so far the expected high mpg (from a diesel) has not shown itself around town.
Disappointing.
This is one very satisfied and contented owner. This is my the third Passat, and the best yet - the build quality is spot on and the driving experience is greatly improved over the previous model.
The fuel economy is not as good as Volkswagen estate but the absence of road noise and diesel rumble are all but eliminated. With a few extras such as full leather upholstery, satellite-navigation, it's more then a match for BMW 3 Series and all the other opposition. Well done VW.
Very good car. It's lacking in power, but still I recommend it.

Owned for 1 year, as family runabout Pros good size, general build quality, powershift gearbox, good to drive, low costs Cons handling slighly…
Had this car for 90k from new. A 56 plate. In over 2,000,000 miles driven this one has broken down the most of any car I have had. DO NOT get a 2.0…
